The body isn’t in the reservoir?

By the reservoir, bright sunlight warmed Shen Ting’s face, but inside, he was filled with deep doubt.

He looked toward the reservoir.

Perhaps due to its depth and the silt at the bottom, the reservoir appeared dark overall.

Yet under the sunlight, its surface shimmered with gentle ripples, the water flowing softly and calmly, as if capable of easily concealing anything beneath.

No matter how Shen Ting thought about it, this reservoir seemed like a prime place to dispose of a body!

kikO: “⚆_⚆?”

Tang Ren: “Little Ba, don’t talk nonsense~~ The killer deliberately brought the body to the reservoir. They wouldn’t have come here just to 'tour' with the corpse~~~”

Guan Hongfeng: “That’s something we need to discuss. Based on the current case, if it were me investigating, I would most likely start by searching the reservoir.”

Qin Ming: “Coming from the entrance, there’s the reservoir and the forest! Burying a body in the forest would require digging a pit. The killer dismembered the victim and transported the body parts, working all night—probably too exhausted to dig a grave. So simply dumping the body in the reservoir would seem like a better choice. But why do you say the body isn’t in the reservoir? And you seem quite certain about this?”

Almost everyone in the group was puzzled by Hannibal’s conclusion.

“The reason is simple!”

Hannibal: “Because my perspective is exactly the opposite of yours. If I were the investigator, I would definitely prioritize searching the reservoir. No problem with that. But if I were the killer, honestly, I would barely glance at the reservoir before leaving. I absolutely wouldn’t dump the body there!”

Jigsaw: “Because the reservoir offers, especially to the killer, very little sense of security. The area around the reservoir is too open, with few places to hide. And the roads are well connected. There’s a small village just a hundred meters away, and a large village downstream. Many villagers regularly pass the roads by the reservoir, going through that junction to reach the highway. The heavy foot traffic means disposing of a body there would be extremely risky, both during and after the act.”

Hannibal: “Exactly! But Jigsaw’s analysis is more rational. Killers don’t treat body disposal like an exam question—they won’t overthink it. At most, they glance at the reservoir, feel uneasy, and move on to another place.”

Simply put: ordinary people or investigators might feel the reservoir is a good place to dump a body. But the criminal instinctively senses it’s unsafe.

If anyone else said this, Shen Ting might not have cared much. But Hannibal and Jigsaw were no ordinary criminals—they were criminal masterminds, artists who elevated crime to an art form. Their investigative methods might not be as conventional as Guan Hongfeng and others, but when it came to understanding criminal psychology and behavior, Qin Ming and the rest were nowhere near as professional as these two.
