Chapter 18: Level 3 Monster, The Ruthless Wang Yang!

The night was as dark as ink. Wang Yang and the others advanced step by step, leaving a wide swath of zombies sprawled across the ground.
Behind them, whenever anyone remained inside a room, they would turn on the lights in unspoken agreement, illuminating the way for the group.
At last, Wang Yang and the others had pushed to within a hundred meters of the gymnasium. Nearly all the zombies outside had been lured out and killed.
The group sat down to recover their strength.
Wang Yang mentioned Zhang Dahai in the chat and asked how things were going.
Zhang Dahai did not reply. He sent only a picture.
Inside the gymnasium, a considerable number of zombies still remained, including several Level One zombies. The three special zombies were still feeding.
“Why don’t we wait until those three finish eating before we move in?” Zhou Tao said between great heaving breaths. “We’ve already killed so many zombies. There’s no way those three can evolve any further.”
Huang Hao immediately agreed. “Exactly. This way, they can kill one another, and we can reap the benefits.”
After killing so many zombies, his legs were aching badly. He truly wanted to rest for a while.
“Right. If those zombies eat the others, they’ll be much easier to deal with!” Wu Huihui’s eyes lit up. She felt it sounded like a good idea.
“No!” Wang Ao said harshly. “Resting now is no different from giving the enemy time to grow stronger.”
“Even if they evolve successfully, they might not become that powerful... Besides, there are only three of them. We can just block the stairwell,” a girl standing beside Wu Huihui said softly.
She was a complete freeloader. At the beginning, she had received a shot of the zombie-immunity virus through Wu Huihui’s connections, and afterward had no choice but to come along.
Everyone who had received the zombie-immunity virus was here. Anyone who failed to come would become a public enemy.
Hearing this, Wang Ao frowned and turned to Wang Yang. “Wang Yang, you don’t think so too, do you?”
Wang Yang was silent for a moment before saying, “Then let’s rest for another three minutes.”
Just then, seeing that they still had not moved, Zhang Dahai hurriedly mentioned them in the group chat.

Everyone opened the picture. The bodies of the three zombies were now covered in bulging red muscle, making them look like crimson demons. The sight was deeply disturbing.
“That’s terrifying. Maybe we should just forget it and go guard the dormitories instead,” said the girl who had suggested resting earlier.
“Sometimes retreat is indeed a sound strategy, but this is certainly not the time for it,” Wang Yang said, drawing a deep breath.
Although Wang Yang did not possess Wang Ao’s intimidating presence, he certainly lacked nothing in leadership ability.
His words drew the hawks’ attention away from the girl, preventing needless internal conflict while also reaffirming the group’s direction.
“Miao Miao, you stay here and keep watch. We don’t want more zombies appearing somewhere else,” Wu Huihui said to the timid girl.
“Okay!” the girl agreed at once.
The girl was not merely cowardly—she was also mindless.
Her behavior immediately drew numerous furious glares.

What a waste of a dose of the immunity virus!
Some people were simply like that. Even when playing a game, they could not freeload properly. Their real lives were probably much the same.
The group once again marched forward in force, quickening their pace somewhat.
“What’s everyone being so vicious about?” the timid girl muttered under her breath before hurriedly scurrying back to the dormitory.
If the zombies suddenly charged out in a single rush, she would not even have the chance to run.
Besides, even if she left ahead of time, Wu Huihui—the kindhearted big sister—would not blame her.
“Shh... There are still plenty of zombies inside. We’ll follow the plan and kill them one by one,” Wang Ao said, forcing his naturally rough voice as soft as possible.
Everyone nodded. As they approached the entrance, a thin young man stepped forward with a long staff in his hands.
The slender young man was the group’s professional zombie bait. Every time, he was the one who lured the zombies out for everyone else to kill.
The others stopped advancing and, with remarkable understanding, formed a surrounding circle.
The thin young man took in the situation inside the gymnasium and was startled. Carefully, he tapped the ground with the wooden staff.
A zombie turned its head. It saw only a swaying wooden stick, not the person holding it.
After hesitating for a moment, it walked over. The instant it emerged through the doorway, a fire axe chopped off its head.
Wang Ao withdrew the axe and lifted his chin toward the thin young man, signaling him to continue.
With a heavy weapon in hand, Wang Ao had no trouble dealing with an ordinary zombie.
He now occupied the top position on the points leaderboard, seemingly far ahead of everyone else.
The others secretly lamented that they had missed out on the single point.
Next, the thin young man continued luring out zombies.
Everything appeared to be proceeding smoothly. But things could not possibly continue so easily. On the seventh attempt, a Might Zombie emerged!
Wang Ao brought his axe down, but failed to kill it.
The commotion instantly grew enormous, and dozens of zombies came pouring out.
Fortunately, they did not form a full-scale horde. As long as that remained the case, the players still had room to maneuver.
An armed adult was far stronger than an ordinary zombie!
—After receiving a rabies shot, the terrifying upright ape would teach a wild dog what cruelty meant!
The zombies were quickly wiped out, but Wang Yang and the others lost three people, while five more suffered severe injuries.
The real damage had been inflicted by the three varieties of Level One zombies.
“I don’t want to die. I don’t want to die. I don’t want to die!” A dark-skinned young man clutched his protruding intestines and murmured in panic, his forehead slick with sweat.
With injuries like these, unless a miracle occurred, death was certain.

Wang Ao frowned. After taking one look, he ignored the wounded man and turned his vicious gaze toward the gymnasium.
Wu Huihui could not bear the sight and was about to say something when a tremendous roar erupted from inside the gymnasium.
A moment later, a savage figure charged out.
He stood more than two meters tall. Veined red muscle coiled across his body, with wisps of muscular steam drifting around him. The sight alone was terrifying.
Some people were so frightened that they lost their voices and hurriedly fled.
The zombies had just scattered everyone once already. Faced so suddenly with such a monster, the group found it nearly impossible to summon the courage to fight!
[Big Zombie]
[Level: 3]
[Skill: Sweeping Strike]
[Description: You should... fear me!]
It really was a Level Three monster!
Wang Yang’s brow twitched. Seeing that the Big Zombie’s first target was not him, he quietly lowered the arm he had raised.
“Boom!”
The Big Zombie swept its arm across. A student was struck and smashed into the wall, his bones breaking on impact.
The sight left everyone stunned.
Wang Ao immediately put away his fire axe and turned to run.
He was reckless, but he was not stupid!
In a situation like this, failing to run meant certain death.
At that moment, a gunshot cracked through the silent night.
Everyone skidded to a halt and turned around.
Wang Yang stood at close range behind the Big Zombie, a pitch-black pistol gripped in his hand.
At this moment of life and death, his back trembled with tension, his pupils were dilated, and even his teeth chattered. Yet he stared with absolute concentration at the Big Zombie’s head.
Using human lives as bait had been all for the sake of this single shot to the head!
Wang Yang was ruthless—and sharp enough to seize the moment!
