Chapter 5: Director, you must come and take a look!
With seven or eight more petty thieves like this, Qin Chuan would secure a second chance at the lottery. The mere thought of it invigorated him.
*Whoosh!*
The Eye of Sin activated. A glance revealed that the vast majority of people were clear. There were quite a few with sin values of one, two, or three, but most were merely guilty of minor transgressions that didn't constitute a crime, so Qin Chuan saw no need to arrest them. According to the system prompts, those with a sin value below ten were essentially law-abiding citizens. Ten points was the threshold; anything above that was an offense serious enough to warrant sentencing. Unless a life was lost, one's sin value rarely exceeded fifty. If it crossed one hundred, it meant the person had at least two homicides on their hands. Therefore, Qin Chuan focused his attention on anyone with a sin value over ten.
Qin Chuan walked ahead while Old Hu dragged Zhang Feng behind him. Since the crook's belt had already been undone, he had to hold up his trousers with one hand while being led by the other. Arresting someone by removing their belt was standard procedure.
*Zhao Junshan, sin value 19. Three days ago, he burglarized the home of the town mayor’s father-in-law, stealing thirty thousand yuan in cash.*
"Damn?" Qin Chuan paused slightly. This was a big catch. He knew about this case; Station Chief Wang had been fretting over it, and he never expected this punk to be the culprit.
Just as Qin Chuan spotted Zhao Junshan, the man spotted him in return. Qin Chuan and Old Hu were in plain clothes, so no one would recognize them as police. However, the shiny handcuffs on Zhang Feng clearly gave them away. Zhao Junshan wasn't particularly afraid; the police didn't have X-ray vision, so how could they know about his theft? Still, out of an subconscious instinct to avoid the law, he remained vigilant, ready to bolt at any moment.
Qin Chuan’s right arm was bandaged, making it inconvenient to engage in direct combat. He walked toward Zhao Junshan while keeping his eyes on a nearby street stall.
"Boss, how much for the peanuts?"
*A feint to the east to strike in the west.* An old trick, but effective. Zhao Junshan breathed a sigh of relief—it turned out they were just buying peanuts. But just as he was about to slip away, a dark shadow suddenly lunged at him.
*Thud!*
Qin Chuan's arm might have been injured, but his legs were perfectly fine. A sweep of his leg sent Zhao Junshan crashing to the ground.
"Old Hu! Handcuffs!"
Old Hu, who was still holding onto Zhang Feng in the back, nearly suffered a heart attack. *Why did he take someone else down again?*
"Stay down! Don't move!" Leaving Zhang Feng where he was, Old Hu hurried over, pulled out his handcuffs, and secured Zhao Junshan firmly.
"This kid," Qin Chuan said, "he’s the one who committed the burglary at the mayor's father-in-law's house three days ago."
"How did you figure that out?"
"Footprints. Look at his shoes—the tread matches what was left at the crime scene."
Qin Chuan was, of course, making that up; Zhao Junshan had been standing, so his soles weren't visible.
"Officer! I’m innocent! I’m a good citizen! You guys..."
*Innocent?* Qin Chuan kicked him in the rear. "Behave yourself. Do you want us to search the cabinet under your bed? See if that thirty thousand is still there?"
Zhao Junshan went silent. He felt this policeman was a bit eerie. Not only had he picked him out of the crowd, but how did he know he’d hidden the money in his bedside cabinet?
*Ding! Congratulations to the host for capturing a thief. Reward: 19 sin-value points!*
Excellent. A total of 42 points! Seeing the suspect's expression, Old Hu knew Qin Chuan had made the right call again. But... was it really because of the footprints? He briskly pulled off the man's belt, hooked it to Zhang Feng, and led them away like he was walking dogs.
Qin Chuan ignored it all; the Eye of Sin was truly incredible. He subconsciously tried to use it again, but with a *bang*, his vision suddenly went black, and he knew nothing more.
Old Hu, following behind, was nearly scared to death. Qin Chuan, who had just been on a rampage, capturing two criminals in a row, had suddenly collapsed like a log.
"Qin Chuan!"
"Qin Chuan!"
"Help! Someone help!"
Old Hu hurriedly called Wang Xuebing: "Chief, it's an emergency! You need to come and take a look!"
Twenty minutes later, at the Changning Town Health Center, Wang Qingfeng checked Qin Chuan’s blood pressure and examined his pupils. "Chief Wang, it’s nothing. He’s just asleep."
*Asleep?* Wang Xuebing looked suspiciously at the unconscious Qin Chuan on the hospital bed, then at the old-fashioned mercury blood pressure monitor in Wang Qingfeng’s hand. "Are you sure he's just asleep?"
Wang Qingfeng thumped his chest. "Chief, I might not be able to say much else, but when it comes to sleeping, I’m an expert! When I used to raise pigs in the village, pigs that were dead asleep looked just like this."
*Could a person be compared to a pig?* Still, watching Qin Chuan’s steady, rhythmic breathing, it seemed there was no major issue. "Old Hu, you stay here and keep an eye on him. Call me if anything happens."
Qin Chuan had collapsed, but Wang Xuebing was swamped. Although Zhang Jinlian had confessed to the child trafficking case, there was still a mountain of follow-up work. More importantly, the suspect for the 618 robbery and homicide in Haizhou City was currently handcuffed to the heating pipe in his office. If not for Qin Chuan’s sudden fainting spell, Wang Xuebing would have been shackled to the suspect himself until the higher-ups arrived. That was a murderer! Since the establishment of the Changning Town Police Station, this was the first time they had ever captured a killer.
Then there was a habitual thief, a burglar... The Changning Town station had never been this lively, holding four criminals at once.
The petty thief was easy enough; Wang Xuebing handed him over to Officer Sun Bingkun. There was no need to dig into past cases; the stolen goods found on him were enough for at least a detention. The burglar was also easy to deal with; he handed him to Deputy Chief Zhang Jun and notified the mayor that the thief who stole from his father-in-law had been caught.
Wang Fengqing, as the mayor of Changning Town, was a local official, but he hadn't slept in a bed for days. His wife had issued an ultimatum: if he didn't catch the thief, he was never stepping foot in their bed again. Because of this, Wang Fengqing had given Wang Xuebing a hard time more than once. But he also knew the state of the local station; it was a miracle they could keep running, let alone solve a crime. He had even reached out to an acquaintance at the county bureau, hoping to have their criminal investigation team look into it. He never expected that just after making the call, he would be told the perpetrator had already been caught!
Wang Fengqing decided to head to the station to see which bastard had the nerve to steal from his father-in-law! That was basically his own money!
...
When Qin Chuan opened his eyes again, his head felt like it was splitting, his vision was filled with golden stars, and the world was spinning.
*Sequelae of overusing the Eye of Sin!*
The scarlet prompt on the system interface let Qin Chuan know why he had fainted. It seemed there were limits to being a cheater. He recalled his usage of the Eye of Sin today. The first three times had been fine, but the fourth time had caused him to collapse. Qin Chuan silently set a limit for himself: no more than three uses of the Eye of Sin per day.
"You finally awake, kid?" Old Hu was sitting by the bed, having not slept at all. Seeing Qin Chuan open his eyes, his face lit up with surprise. Today’s mission with Qin Chuan had been the most thrilling day of Old Hu's life—and the most dangerous.
