2. Awakening of the Spirit Power

Lin Mo raised an eyebrow, unconvinced, but refrained from pressing further. If there were any issues, they would be discovered once they arrived at the research institute and conducted a thorough examination.
Lin Mo brought Ning Xuan aboard the spacecraft. To ensure her safety, he placed her in his personal cabin. Once on board, he removed his helmet and face covering. After seeing his face clearly, Ning Xuan couldn’t help but steal a few extra glances.
Lin Mo had fair skin and finely sculpted features, with a head of golden curls and two long, slender legs. His appearance was exceptionally striking. He carried an aura of cool nobility, exuding an aloofness that seemed unattainable.
As the youngest lieutenant general in the history of the Federation, Lin Mo was of noble birth and exceptional talent, boasting numerous military honors. Naturally, he had every right to his pride.
Feeling slightly embarrassed under Ning Xuan’s unabashed gaze, a faint blush colored Lin Mo’s cheeks. He rose and drew aside the curtain covering the ship’s window. Gazing out, Ning Xuan observed the cracked terrain, fog-covered islands, deep lakes, flame-spewing pits, enormous strange beasts, and peculiar giant birds darting across the sky. She studied this world with curiosity until the spacecraft came to a halt before a peculiar building. Beside it stood a sign reading “Xizhi Research Institute.”
Lin Mo instructed Hu Xia and others to carry the captured alien plant inside and hand it over to the relevant staff. Then he led Ning Xuan to an examination room. A bespectacled, refined-looking researcher rose respectfully at the sight of Ning Xuan. “Good day, madam. How may I assist you?” he asked politely.
“I found her during a mission and suspect that an alien plant has parasitized her body. Please conduct a thorough examination,” Lin Mo explained.
Ning Xuan remained silent, her expression tense. Parasitized—he meant the Ghostface Red Vine? The Ghostface Red Vine had exhausted its energy and turned into a seed. She wondered if they could detect it. If they did find it, what would they do?
The researcher glanced at Ning Xuan, puzzled, seeming to doubt Lin Mo’s suspicion. Still, he led Ning Xuan into a heavily secured examination room. “Madam, please rest assured. This machine targets only contaminated alien plants or creatures and will not harm your body in any way. The scan takes just a few minutes. There is a screen where you can clearly see the condition inside your body,” he said carefully, as if afraid to alarm her.
Ning Xuan’s expression softened slightly. It sounded like a CT or MRI scan. “Sir, thank you for your reassurance, but I do not wish to undergo this examination. Doing so would violate my consent,” she said tentatively.
“I apologize, madam. As you have seen, Lieutenant General Lin Mo insists there is a dangerous alien plant inside you. To eliminate any risk, I must follow orders. I hope you understand,” the researcher replied politely, even bowing slightly.
“I understand. May I ask—if no abnormalities are found inside me, can I sue the person outside?” Ning Xuan asked. Just then, Lin Mo’s tall figure appeared at the door, tapping on the glass as if urging her on.
Without receiving an answer, Ning Xuan was placed on a 30-centimeter-high platform. A humming sound followed as a blue light swept back and forth across her body—no abnormalities detected.
“No issues?” Lin Mo was somewhat surprised but said no more. As long as the danger was ruled out, that was enough.
“Madam, no abnormalities were found inside you. Regarding your earlier question, you may demand compensation from Lieutenant General Lin Mo. If he refuses, you may file a complaint with the Women’s Protection Association, and I am willing to testify on your behalf,” the researcher said as he powered down the machine and escorted Ning Xuan out.

Lin Mo bowed slightly to Ning Xuan. “Madam, I apologize for going against your wishes, but this was to ensure your safety. I was merely following protocol. How about this—I will personally escort you home, and we can consider this matter settled. How does that sound?” It was clear he had heard everything she had said earlier.
Ning Xuan was stunned. Go home? Her home was in Tianhe City on Earth. He probably didn’t have the means to send her there.
“Come. Where do you live? I’ll take you,” Lin Mo urged.
“I don’t know,” Ning Xuan replied, a little despondent. For now, she couldn’t return home. She truly had no idea where the original owner of this body had lived—no memories were left to her.
“Very well, I’ll take you to the information registration center to check,” Lin Mo said, assuming Ning Xuan’s reluctance was due to frustration. He wanted to resolve the matter quickly and took her to the information center.
“Madam, simply scanning your iris will retrieve all your information. Would you like this to remain confidential?” the male receptionist asked. Ning Xuan suddenly realized that neither the Alien Plant Research Institute nor this information center had any female staff members.
Could it be that women were excluded from social work?
Judging by their demeanor, they treated women with respect and kindness. Except for Lin Mo, everyone else lowered their heads upon seeing her, a gesture of courtesy.
“Confidential?” Ning Xuan looked at him curiously.
“Information retrieval leaves a query record. If you choose confidentiality, I can delete the query records for you,” the receptionist explained with a smile, showing no impatience at her ignorance.
“In that case, let it be confidential,” Ning Xuan said. She knew nothing of the original owner of this body and was curious about what information would be uncovered.
Following the staff’s instructions, Ning Xuan positioned her eyes before a microscope-like device. About five seconds later, a projection screen lit up beside the machine, displaying lines of text one by one.
