Chapter 90: Are You Insulting Me, You Little Brat?
Clear Breeze Ancient Town.
Inside a large compound in the town’s northeast corner, the weeping of a young man shook the entire Wen family estate.
…
“Brother Qing, don’t ask me to get involved in this kind of thing again.”
Having escorted Wen Song home together with Wen Qing, Tian Hun had reached his limit as well. He waved his hand at Wen Qing and spoke quickly.
Seeing the disgraceful state Wen Song had sunk into, Wen Qing was equally furious.
He cursed, “Tian Hun, you’re not the only one. I’m done standing up for him too.”
Even as he snapped, Wen Qing could not help giving his useless younger brother a kick.
Wen Song, consumed by his miserable wailing, did not even notice the harmless blow.
After Tian Hun left, Wen Qing was still staring at his hopeless brother in speechless exasperation when several figures hurried out of the main hall.
At their head was his mother.
“Oh my!”
Seeing Wen Song collapsed on the ground in tears, the woman was heartbroken beyond measure.
She rushed forward in a few quick steps and pulled Wen Song’s head into her arms, asking over and over, “Xiaosong, what happened? Tell Mom who bullied you. I’ll have that blind fool crippled.”
As she soothed him with her words, she kept stroking his back.
It was obvious that Wen Song’s personality today had much to do with his mother.
…
The more the mother and son spoke, the more pitiful it all became, and Wen Qing could hardly bear to listen.
He helped his mother up and said helplessly, “Wen Song only got a few bruises. It’s nothing serious.”
No sooner had she been lifted than the woman lunged back beside Wen Song and wailed, “Wen Qing, how are you even a big brother?
“Xiaosong has been beaten into a pig’s face, and you’re still standing there talking so coldly?
“How can this be nothing?!”
Wen Qing’s face darkened.
He was utterly helpless and simply took a few steps back, no longer saying a word.
He had seen scenes like this far too many times in this family.
Then, from the corner of his eye, he caught sight of his father and hurried over.
“Dad, aren’t you going to say something to this mother-and-son pair?”
Wen Tianming gave a resigned sigh. “Me? What am I supposed to say?”
With a wave of his hand, he added, “Let them cry if they want. They’ve been doing this for years anyway.”
“Good thing Grandfather isn’t home. If he saw Xiaosong in this state, he’d probably explode again.”
Just thinking about the old man’s temper made Wen Qing suddenly feel that perhaps things were not so bad after all.
Neither of them had expected that just as the words fell, a servant’s shout came from outside: “The master and Senior Duan from the Nine Flowers Sect have returned!”
…
Still in Clear Breeze Ancient Town, Zhang Ze had not yet realized what kind of chaos his few punches to Wen Song had brought down upon this martial family, which had stood for two or three hundred years.
“Why are you still following me?”
“You’ve fallen for me already?”
“So fast?”
He turned to look at Ren Xue’er and could not help feeling pleased with himself for quite a while.
Ren Xue’er was speechless and did not bother answering him at all.
But after a brief silence, she still said in a low voice, “I’m here to protect you two. Otherwise, you should leave Clear Breeze Ancient Town as soon as possible.”
Seeing how serious she sounded, Zhang Ze and Cai Hu both frowned.
Yet Zhang Ze quickly grinned and teased, “What, I’m not allowed to stay in Clear Breeze Ancient Town after teaching Wen Song a lesson?”
“Is this whole town somehow the Wen family’s to command?”
He wore an expression of complete disdain, while Cai Hu continued scanning the surroundings, seriously searching for the traces of those two cultists.
To Ren Xue’er, the two of them seemed rather unfortunate.
Thinking that this trouble had been caused by her, she did not have the heart to just walk away.
So she warned them anyway, “Clear Breeze Ancient Town may not belong to the Wen family, but the old master of that household dotes on Wen Song terribly.”
“You beat Wen Song into that state. He won’t just sit back and do nothing.”
“Oh?”
Zhang Ze was not the least bit afraid.
Still smiling, he said, “No wonder Wen Song acts so prissy. Bad upbringing does that.”
Having become familiar with Ren Xue’er rather quickly, Zhang Ze no longer minded her following them.
He was already bored to death from spending every day helping Cai Hu look for traces of those cultists, so if this girl wanted to tag along, what was there to complain about?
Only Zhang Ze had not expected that what was coming would still come in the end.
…
That evening.
The three of them were eating at a restaurant when a burst of commotion broke out, and they saw an old man and a young man coming straight toward them.
Seeing the look on Wen Song’s face, one that clearly said he had found backing and could swagger even more, Zhang Ze instantly understood why these two had come.
So he had gone and brought reinforcements.
The old and the young sat directly across from the trio, neither of them speaking for a moment.
“Grandpa Ran.”
Ren Xue’er took the initiative and broke the silence.
Hearing her voice, Wen Ran smiled and said, “Xue’er, I’ve only been away from home for two days, and this brat Xiaosong has already gone and angered you again?
“Don’t worry. Now that Grandpa Ran is back, I’ll settle things between you and Xiaosong. I’ll go back and teach him a lesson myself.”
The old man’s voice was full of indulgence, and it was clear he truly liked Ren Xue’er.
…
In truth, Ren Xue’er’s grandfather and Wen Ran had once been close friends.
Many years earlier, after an upheaval in Ren Xue’er’s family, her grandfather had entrusted her to Wen Ran.
At the time, Ren Xue’er had been only three years old. The little girl had been exceptionally clever and lovable, and Wen Ran had taken a genuine fondness to her.
Combined with the fact that Wen Song and Ren Xue’er were about the same age, the two children grew up together in the Wen household.
Because the old man doted so heavily on Wen Song, from the moment he brought Ren Xue’er back, he had raised her almost as if she were Wen Song’s future wife.
Ren Xue’er had once spoken of her background, so Zhang Ze naturally knew all of this.
Though the old man clearly did not wish to deal with him, Zhang Ze could not help but interject with a smile. “Old sir, can’t you see that Xue’er doesn’t like your grandson at all?”
The old man’s face suddenly turned stern as he barked, “Brat, who are you calling grandson?”
Zhang Ze was momentarily dumbfounded.
Who did I curse?
All I heard was you cursing me!
Before Zhang Ze could explain, the old man snapped, “Where did this wild little punk come from, calling someone else’s grandson?”
Zhang Ze still had not realized how serious things were and looked utterly innocent as he hurriedly explained, “I meant your grandson…”
“Good!”
“You’re cursing me now!”
The old man suddenly slapped the table and stood up, startling Zhang Ze badly.
“I said Wen Song, not cursing—”
Bang.
Thud, thud, thud.
Before Zhang Ze could finish, Wen Ran had already sent a palm straight into his chest.
Zhang Ze staggered back several steps at once. His throat went sweet, and he spat out a mouthful of bright red blood.
Having been reduced to this state, how could Zhang Ze still not understand the man’s meaning?
Sensing the force in that palm strike, Zhang Ze instantly concluded that this was a middle-grade martial artist.
At that point, how could he possibly think of fighting back?
With a bitter expression, he said wrongfully, “Senior, using tricks to bully a young man like me would not look very good if word got out, would it?”
“Hmph.”
Wen Ran gave a cold snort, clearly with no intention of stopping.
By then, Zhang Ze was utterly speechless.
I beat your grandson up.
And it really does look rather miserable, doesn’t it?
But as a middle-grade martial artist, couldn’t you tell it was only superficial wounds?
