Chapter One: The Mist Survival Game
Mist swirled all around, and Wang Xiao felt a bit troubled.
“Is this smog?”
“Is this the so-called pain that breathes?”
Wang Xiao tried to slow his breathing. Yes, stay strong—don’t breathe it in!
A sudden voice startled him.
[Welcome to the Mist Survival Game!]
[Here, everyone is equal (the elderly and children are not included in this survival round)]
[You are surrounded by mist. You may choose a direction to disperse it.]
[Each time, you can clear an area of 5×5 meters.]
[After the mist is dispersed, anything may appear: food, skill books, items, monsters.]
[You can disperse the mist three times a day! Good luck!]
[The game begins!]
…
A series of notification sounds rang out.
[You have obtained a tent (common). It looks ordinary, but it will provide you with a sense of security.]
[You have obtained a baseball bat (common), a simple stick—large and useful. Perhaps you’ll need it.]
“What...?”
“That’s it?”
Wang Xiao stared at the simple information on the virtual panel.
Name: Wang Xiao
Combat Power: 10 (Don’t bother looking, everyone has the same.)
Items: Tent (common), Baseball Bat (common)
Dispersal Attempts: 3
What now? I’m in a game, panicking—need help online!
Wang Xiao gazed at the surrounding mist. “Fortune favors the bold. Let’s go!”
He gripped the baseball bat tightly with both hands, faced the mist, and shouted, “Disappear!”
The mist slowly parted, revealing a square clearing.
Wang Xiao let out a sigh of relief.
Lying quietly in the middle of the clearing was a single chest.
[Black Iron Chest: It may contain something you need!]
Wang Xiao walked over to the pitch-black chest and opened it.
[You have obtained 3 bottles of Ice Dew and 1 Snickers bar.]
“Only that from a chest?” Wang Xiao was a bit disappointed.
[Regional chat has been enabled!]
[You may send 5 messages per day!]
“Anyone there?”
“Can anyone help me? I was bitten by a viper.”
“Don’t panic, bro. It’s only hallucinogenic. Tonight you’ll be eating snake meat.” (drools)
“Oh wow! Let’s go! Go! Go!”
“Any handsome guys here? I’m scared~”
“I’m starving. I haven’t eaten all day.”
“Can anyone help me? I’m a billionaire.”

“Tch, a million can’t even buy you a piece of bread here.”
“I got a Bronze Chest! Am I about to soar!?”
“Big shot, give me some luck!”
“I’ve dispersed twice and the system warned me to treasure these three chances.”
“Check it out! The online count just dropped!”
Wang Xiao looked at the bottom left corner of his virtual panel: [10000/9984]
“Did those people die?”
“That shouldn’t be. Judging by the chat, the first three dispersals shouldn’t be dangerous,” Wang Xiao muttered, puzzled.
The truth was, thrust suddenly into this world, there would always be some who couldn’t take it mentally.
Once their minds collapsed, suicide became a possibility.
“Never mind, it doesn’t involve me anyway.”
“I have to survive!”
Knowing the first three dispersals were safe made Wang Xiao bold.
“Take a risk—maybe my bike will turn into a motorcycle!”
Hoping for something good, Wang Xiao even started humming “A Good Day.”
“Today is a good day~”
“Disperse!”
A brilliant purple light flashed, and Wang Xiao was overjoyed.
“Heh, I, Wang Xiao, am the luckiest of them all!”
[Skill Book: Human Artistry (Epic), Effect: Tenfold combat power damage. Art is explosion! As an artist, to understand true art, you must be willing to risk your life to embody it!]
Wang Xiao’s face darkened. “Are you trying to get me killed?”
“Art, my foot! I just want to live!”
He silently stowed the skill book in his backpack and prepared for his last dispersal of the day.
“I’m willing to trade my ten years of singlehood for a Bronze Chest!”
Wang Xiao closed his eyes and walked into the dispersal area.
A pitch-black chest lay on the ground, as if mocking him.
“Whatever, a chest is a chest.”
[Black Iron Chest: It may contain something you need!]
Wang Xiao rubbed his hands together and slowly opened the black iron chest.
[You have obtained an inflatable doll. Are you lonely in this world of mist? Come, return to a warm embrace!]
“…”
“My god!”
Just as Wang Xiao was feeling dejected, a notification sounded.
[Regional trading now open]
“I have cigarettes for trade. DM me.”
“Oh, big shot?”
“I want some, I want some.”
“Selling [Machete Blueprint (common)], Price: two bottles of water.”
“Selling Skill Book: [Spit (excellent), Effect: guaranteed hit within 20 meters, 100% taunt. A mouthful of thick phlegm, low damage but maximum insult!], Price: 10 loaves of bread.”
“Nice skill above! Planning to die even faster?”
“Ten loaves of bread? I’ll pee yellow and wake him up with it!”
“But that skill is really strong—a hundred percent taunt! Just thinking about it excites me.”
“I wouldn’t dare use it.” (picks nose)
Wang Xiao looked at the inflatable doll in his backpack and had an idea.
“Selling inflatable doll, anything in exchange.”
The chatroom instantly exploded, flushing out many lurking female players.
“Pervert!” (angry)
“So filthy!” (scornful)
“There are always people like this everywhere.” (speechless)
…
Naturally, a bunch of LSP male players got riled up as well.
“Bro, that’s a good item.” (envious)
“I’m still a virgin, I want to try it.” (shy)
“I’m lonely too.” (longing)
“Guys, this is real-name trading!”
“Haha, social death?”
“No worries, it’s more embarrassing for the seller.” (snicker)
“Oh look, it’s Master Wang Xiao. Heh.”
“Damn, I’ve already traded! You can’t see me, you can’t see me!”
“Hey, isn’t this the guy selling the taunt skill book? Respect!” (admiring)
“I bow to you, sirs.” (smirking)
Wang Xiao was stunned. Looking at the skill book in his inventory: [Spit (excellent), Effect: guaranteed hit within 20 meters, 100% taunt. A mouthful of thick phlegm, low damage but maximum insult!]
“Give me back my inflatable doll! This is outrageous!”
“Playing dead.” (ignoring)
“You two are amazing.” (thumbs up)
“You two are amazing.” (thumbs up)
“You two are amazing.” (thumbs up)
…
Wang Xiao’s cheeks burned. “Fine, just wait. I, Wang, will turn things around!”
He quietly took out his tent. Well, apart from sheltering from wind and rain, it had no other use.
Lying inside, Wang Xiao began researching.
Skill books were the hardest to come by. Even a common one had only a 10% chance, excellent ones 5%, superior only 1%, rare skills 0.1%, epic a mere 0.01%, and legendary were downright absurd at 0.0001%.
Faced with that near-zero chance for a legendary skill, Wang Xiao couldn’t help but smile bitterly.
“I’ve never been lucky; this is targeted harassment.”
The more Wang Xiao thought about it, the angrier he became. He’d finally gotten an epic skill book, only for it to be a suicidal one.
He continued browsing. There were six chest tiers: Black Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Diamond, and Legendary.
Legendary chests had a 0.1% chance to yield a legendary skill book.
That was the trait of a legendary chest: a thousandfold increased chance for legendary-grade items.
…
