Chapter 7: The Pup Falls Ill

Shi Chuchu was jolted awake by the immense strength of the little creature poking her, her drowsiness immediately halved. She turned over and looked at the small being beside her, speaking weakly, “...Aren’t you tired too? Your classes were all canceled; you should be sleeping.”
The little stone mound seemed a bit nervous, showing no response to her words, just locking eyes with her. After a moment, Shi Chuchu sighed in resignation, stretched out her arm, and pulled the little stone mound into her embrace, holding his small body firmly with both hands.
“Don’t make noise, go to sleep.”
She ended up sleeping until noon.
Actually, if she hadn’t been disturbed, Shi Chuchu could have kept sleeping.
But there are no “ifs.”
Groggily opening her eyes, Shi Chuchu gave the restless little stone mound a death glare as he wriggled in her arms, radiating the unmistakable aura of someone who just got up.
Unaware of her irritation, the little stone mound eagerly reached out and hugged her neck tighter the moment she opened her eyes.
“Hungry... little Bao... hungry hungry...” he babbled indistinctly.
Shi Chuchu rubbed her eyes and glanced at the clock on the wall, realizing it was already noon.
Normally, the little stone mound would eat at 12:30 p.m., but today the maid who usually took care of him wasn’t around, and Shi Chuchu had been too engrossed in sleeping to feed him breakfast, leaving him hungry until now.
Looking into the little one’s big, watery eyes, Shi Chuchu felt a pang of guilt and, setting aside her irritation, resignedly climbed out of bed to feed him.
What was she feeding him?
Of course, it was the nutritious children’s breakfast that the nutritionist had delivered that morning but hadn’t yet been eaten.
Shi Chuchu sat at the edge of the bed, holding a delicate little bowl, inspecting the now-cooled, mushy porridge and wondering whether she should warm it up before feeding the little one.
Though inexperienced in childcare, she vaguely knew that young creatures’ stomachs were relatively delicate and shouldn’t have cold food.
While pondering this, she suddenly noticed the little stone mound had crawled over and, with his chubby little hands, scooped a big spoonful of porridge into his mouth.
Shi Chuchu was startled. “You can eat cold food??”
The little stone mound grinned at her with satisfaction.
Amused by his silly smile, Shi Chuchu pinched his chubby cheek.
“Didn’t expect you to be so easy to take care of—eating by yourself and not picky.”
“Mm, worthy to be my little one!”

The little one devoured more than half the bowl of porridge in no time. Shi Chuchu patted his little belly and mercilessly took the bowl away.
“That’s enough, enough. You still have lunch to eat later.”
With lunch just twenty minutes away, Shi Chuchu led the little one to the bathroom.
Having eaten well and rested, the little one was very obedient and cooperated fully, sitting on a small stool while Shi Chuchu washed him up.
Five minutes later, seeing the little one’s flushed cheeks and glancing at the towel in her hand, Shi Chuchu realized she might have been a bit too rough and resolved to be gentler next time she washed his face.
Fifteen minutes later, after much effort, Shi Chuchu had changed the little one’s clothes, though something about the outfit felt off, she couldn’t quite place it.
With lunch approaching, Shi Chuchu stopped overthinking, seated the little one at the children’s dining table, and used the communication light brain device the butler had delivered last night to notify the nutritionist to send lunch to the child’s room.
Lunch was again a self-feeding affair for the little one, while Shi Chuchu leisurely ate her own meal nearby.
As a succubus, her main source of energy was from vigorous, high-quality males; these ordinary foods were merely something to taste, offering little nourishment.
After lunch, it was time for Shi Chuchu’s favorite part of the day: the afternoon nap.
She lay down on the soft cot specially for naps, cradling the little one, set an alarm, closed her eyes peacefully, and continued to catch up on sleep.
If every day could be like this, maybe being a childcare provider wouldn’t be so bad after all.
Shi Chuchu happily squeezed the little one’s delightfully soft bottom, feeling content.
But her pleasant daydream was soon shattered.
At two in the afternoon, Shi Chuchu was abruptly awakened by the little one’s whimpering.
Groggy, she looked down and was about to lightly bop the naughty little creature on the head, only to see his face pale as death.
Not only that, in the cool room, a thin layer of sweat had formed on his forehead.
This was clearly not right.
Shi Chuchu’s sleepiness vanished instantly.
“Little Bao? What’s wrong...”
She gently shook the little one’s shoulders, but the next second, he vomited all over her.
After vomiting, the little one began to wail loudly.
Panicked, Shi Chuchu summoned all her strength, hoisted the heavy little guy into her arms, and staggered toward the door.
“Where’s the doctor? Someone call the doctor!!”

Soon, a male servant rushed over at the news, terrified by the little one’s pale face, and dashed off to fetch Long Yuan’s private physician.
*
“Nonsense! Complete nonsense! The Dragon Lion clan’s young are inherently fragile; how could you feed the little master cold food after he’s been hungry for half the day?!”
The doctor scolded furiously, his face flushed as he swiftly administered an IV to the little one.
Shi Chuchu was still in shock, staring blankly at the child on the bed, who was now running a fever.
“How did you receive your childcare training? How could you make such a basic mistake?!”
The doctor, well over seventy years old, looked at the weak, sickly child with deep anguish.
He had watched Long Yuan grow up since childhood, and when Long Yuan had a child, he treasured the child as his own heart’s delight.
Now, after just one morning in the care of the nanny, the child was in this state—how could he not be heartbroken?
As he spoke, the bedroom door was flung open, and Long Yuan strode briskly toward the child on the bed, followed closely by an anxious butler.
Shi Chuchu secretly glanced up, seeing Long Yuan’s face cold and tight-jawed, his already sharp eyes now darkened with a sinister, fierce aura.
She couldn’t help but shudder.
She knew Long Yuan all too well; such quiet fury could effortlessly burn a person to ashes.
Long Yuan’s fingertips trembled as they reached toward the child on the bed, but just before touching him, he abruptly withdrew his hand.
The butler immediately understood and handed him a warm, damp towel.
Long Yuan rubbed his hands back and forth, wiping them clean, then gently touched the child’s forehead.
Feeling the high temperature radiating from that tender skin, his expression turned frighteningly cold.
“...What happened?” His voice was cold and hoarse.
The doctor sighed, explaining the entire sequence of events.
After confirming the child’s condition had stabilized, Long Yuan’s dark eyes locked onto Shi Chuchu.
Since Long Yuan had entered, Shi Chuchu had been shrinking her head like a quail; now, caught in this cold, piercing gaze, goosebumps instantly rose along her spine.
