Chapter Ninety-Nine: Maomao's Star-Absorbing Technique
The Fallen Cemetery.
A place where monsters ranged from level 90 to 100. The gloomy graveyard atmosphere, the fallen guards, and the dim, murky light formed the overall picture of this scene.
A skeleton, followed by a bizarre winged skeleton dog the size of a Pekingese, was wreaking havoc in this place that no one had ever set foot in before.
Naturally, this was Li Ren and his new pet, Maomao.
Speaking of which, he had deliberately chosen this place because of Li Ren's Cruelty Aura attribute. With something like that, he couldn't just let it go to waste, right? Besides, the higher the monster's level, the more attributes it possessed, and the more attributes there were to absorb.
Originally, he had still been thinking of summoning skeleton minions to help him chop up monsters and convert blood essence. Although the blood essence absorbed by his skeleton minions would inexplicably lose a little over half of its amount, at least the speed was somewhat faster.
But from the moment he killed his first monster, Maomao, who had been standing on his shoulder, began to show off its divine might.
What was converting blood essence? It didn't understand that. But it understood eating! It understood eating attributes and eating experience!
Li Ren watched, dumbfounded, as the monster he had just slain was sucked into Maomao's wide-open mouth in one single gulp. Its experience surged wildly, and even the experience on his own body leapt up considerably. And when he realized that there really was an attribute bonus as well, he just let Maomao do whatever it pleased.
But this little guy was only level 1, and it truly had no fear whatsoever of these monsters that were no less than level 100.
Instead, it was Li Ren who constantly had to keep an eye out and clear away the clueless monsters that wandered too close to his gluttonous Maomao, creating a fine dining environment for it.
Although this speed was a bit slower, after Li Ren's testing, he discovered that their attributes and experience were distributed evenly, half and half, without even a single bit missing.
Thinking about how he wanted to quickly level Maomao up so that it could be used as a mount later, he just accepted it. The experience from level 100 monsters was extremely high, but apparently the experience Maomao needed to level up was even more terrifying.
This little guy had absolutely no idea where all that experience went. Li Ren only knew that he himself was almost halfway through level 83, and this little runt still hadn't even reached level 15.
The slowness was simply outrageous!
Fortunately, the relationship between the two of them was truly miraculous — when leveling up, they could actually adjust the experience distribution between each other. Li Ren steeled his heart and funneled all the experience to Maomao, leaving only the attribute points to be shared by both.
Then he continued to bury his head in killing monsters.
It had to be said that Li Ren's monster-killing speed was now quite remarkable. Swaths and swaths of monsters fell before him with each sweeping strike. Against these ordinary monsters, he really didn't feel any pressure whatsoever.
After all, he had been very particular when choosing this place. He needed a spot that was somewhat narrow, densely packed with monsters, and completely devoid of ranged attackers.
Having gone through the trouble of crossing a gap of ten or twenty levels to find such a place, he should be secretly rejoicing.
Anyway, they were just ordinary monsters, so he didn't care about the level gap that still existed. Even if he missed a couple of times now and then, and his attack power dropped a little, at the very least, he himself was an elite BOSS-level existence. If he kept developing the way he was going, becoming a lord-level BOSS on his own would be a simple matter.
Right now, his attributes were still somewhat lacking. But since leveling up meant absorbing attributes, this was exactly the perfect window for him to break through like crazy.
Maomao stuck its butt out behind him, constantly sucking things in. It was a mystery where that little bone body of its had gotten such a suction function. And that mouth of its could actually shrink those originally massive monsters down to miniature size and suck them into its belly. It really looked quite miraculous.
Since Li Ren now had something to look forward to, he worked even harder at grinding monsters, and Maomao was happily gulping everything down. The two of them kept grinding in perfect coordination like this.
The monsters in the cemetery had a limit after all. As Maomao's level increased and its attribute points skyrocketed, its health also became quite formidable. So this guy grew even bolder and ran around wildly. Li Ren couldn't manage it, so he could only do his best to kill all the monsters in front of him. And so, the monsters on the first floor were quickly cleared out. Waiting in the same spot for a respawn wasn't exactly ideal, so Li Ren decided to head to the second floor and have some fun.
The cemetery had only 5 floors in total, and each floor was a bit harder than the last. The second and third floors held elite monsters, the fourth floor was all elite BOSSes, and the fifth floor was lord-level.
The lord here was an Evil Spirit King at a full level of 150. Of course, Li Ren had no intention of provoking that guy. It clearly wasn't very wise right now. He would have to wait — wait until his level really caught up, and then talk about it.
Entering the second floor, the elite monsters had noticeably higher health and attack. If a group attacked simultaneously, even Li Ren's HP with his current equipment would plummet. He had a full 1 million HP right now. He seductively lured a whole circle of them, and all the elites charged desperately toward him. So, he had no choice but to back himself against a wall, shield Maomao behind him, and hack and slash with all his might in front.
As for Rain Out of Mortal Bond, there was no need to elaborate — although it was useful, it had a cooldown. It wasn't like Five-Star Accumulated Strike, which could hit as fast as he could strike.
In a place like this, the effect of Five-Star Accumulated Strike combined with Half-Moon Slash was a bit better than Rain Out of Mortal Bond.
The monsters in front of Li Ren kept dying. Of course, his own life was also dropping at a terrifyingly fast pace. After all, there was a 20-level gap, and such a huge group of monsters was attacking him all at once. It would be impossible for his HP not to drop.
At this moment, only he could withstand this kind of pressure — hacking monsters while simultaneously fighting Maomao for the corpses.
Without corpses, he had no blood essence. And without blood essence, how could he recover his HP?
Fortunately, one blood essence could restore 5% at a time. Li Ren grabbed them and consumed them as he went, which wasn't too strenuous. Although his health bar was still dropping, it was much slower now.
At this rate, finishing off this group of monsters was no problem at all.
It had to be said that as Maomao's level increased crazily, the capacity of its mouth was also increasing crazily.
It really seemed like it had practiced some kind of Star-Sucking Technique — it could suck away a target's attributes just by sucking at them for a while.
Originally, it could only suck one at a time, but after this guy reached level 30, it started sucking by small patches.
Li Ren was about to collapse. If it was going to group-grind monsters like that, it would become even harder for him to snatch blood essence.
Maomao, now level 30, seemed to have undergone no other changes besides growing a bit bigger and eating a bit more. Li Ren didn't care and continued grinding. Anyway, his goal had been set long ago — he would keep grinding until this guy reached level 80. At least then it could be ridden. Otherwise, what would be the point of raising it?
And thinking about the sight of himself riding Maomao later — if he enlarged Maomao a little... could it really turn into a bone dragon?
Li Ren was delighted by the thought, and his hands worked even harder.
