This outcome was actually within Jiang Yi’s expectations. After all, at level one, he had only killed one zombie, and he didn’t believe that just one kill per level would be sufficient! Summoning the light screen on the wall, he saw that his five attributes remained mostly unchanged, except for his level, which had advanced to level 1 (1/2).

“Can one zombie really grant just one experience point? Then if I kill another zombie, I can level up again?” Jiang Yi felt a surge of excitement. He had to admit, his ability was straightforward to a fault: kill zombies to gain experience, and once enough experience was accumulated, automatically level up, bringing significant improvements in all aspects—a simple and direct method perfectly suited for this terrifying apocalypse.

Eager to verify his hypothesis, Jiang Yi used the scabbard to push the half of a corpse’s head stuck in the broken hole outward. No sooner had the opening cleared than another zombie’s head filled the gap.

Leveling up by defeating monsters was incredibly satisfying. Jiang Yi swung his blade down! This time, the massive head was nearly cleaved clean off! Another flash of light followed, and then Jiang Yi took a deep breath as his entire aura seemed to transcend itself in the next moment.

Quickly pulling up his stats: “Level: 2 (0/4), Speed 5 points, Defense 3 points, Strength 2.5 points, Spirit 2.5 points, Constitution 2 points...” As expected, just as Jiang Yi thought, he had leveled up once more. But before he could celebrate, a pang of dread struck him as he looked at the changed attributes and the experience needed for the next level.

To reach level 1 required 1 point of experience, to reach level 2 needed 2 points, but level 3 demanded 4 points! This progression resembled the nth number being 2 to the power of (n-1).

The thought sent a chill through Jiang Yi’s heart. The joy of gaining a powerful ability vanished without a trace. If this were truly the case, leveling up would become unimaginably difficult! The early stages might be fast, but with each level, the difficulty doubled. Without even reaching level ten, the experience required to level up would be terrifyingly high.

Feeling heavy-hearted, Jiang Yi revealed the hole once more and swiftly chopped off a whole zombie head with one stroke.

He couldn’t deny that this method of combat was incredibly safe and efficient. Without this, Jiang Yi, whose body was still weak, would have struggled to survive the relentless onslaught of zombies even with his abilities.
