What is Ma En doing here? Ning Changkong lowered the brim of his black hat and covered his cheeks with a hospital mask, quietly watching the hospital room where Lv Yide was staying from a short distance away.

The young girl had expected to see either Doctor Xu Wen or Doctor Liu Yujun, but to her surprise, she saw Ma En here instead.

She had intended to call out to him just moments ago, but a thin woman accompanying Ma En blocked her way, leaving Ning Changkong no chance to approach. By the time she realized it, Ma En had already gone inside.

The girl stood up, restless, pacing back and forth.

Fortunately, she didn’t have to wait long before Ma En returned to the corridor. This time, he immediately noticed the anxious-looking Ning Changkong.

Their eyes met briefly.

Without hesitation, the girl decided to walk toward Ma En.

“I can’t guarantee that what I’m about to say is absolutely true,” Ning Changkong began. “Just like I can’t be sure whether I’m actually losing my mind, so don’t take my words at face value.”

Ma En said nothing, simply watching her.

The girl continued, “Remember when I said that everyone appears different from their real selves in my eyes?

“I believe there’s some kind of pattern to what I see. For example, those six symbols I showed you last time—they came from what I saw in you.

“But it’s also possible that those symbols are genuinely connected to you, which is why I experienced the corresponding hallucinations. So whether what I saw is real or not, you’ll have to decide for yourself.

“I’ve seen other patients with dissociative identity disorder, and they all had quite obvious traits. But I didn’t see those same traits in him, so I suspect he might not be sick at all.

“Even if he is, it’s not a case of multiple personalities.”

Ning Changkong looked nervously at Ma En, worried he might think she was crazy.

Ma En shook his head.

“No. I believe he does have multiple personalities.”

The girl quickly replied, “You don’t understand. I can see that he doesn’t change at all, and his aura tells me the same. So tell me—do those symbols I showed you have any meaning?”

Ma En spoke softly, “I talked with Lv Yide. If he’s truly faking it, we’ll know soon enough.”

Ning Changkong tried to persuade him, “Haven’t you noticed? Last week…”

The surroundings began to blur.

Inside the room.

Lv Yide casually tossed a crushed soda can into the trash bin. His gaze was dark as he stood before the table, staring intently at the black handgun.

He hadn’t expected to survive, let alone that someone would plan to kill him, even come here to persuade him to commit suicide. Yet Ma En’s actions seemed utterly ridiculous to him…

Many of Lv Yide’s statements were half-truths, such as the reason for killing his ex-girlfriend—after all, his father had already prepared every possible escape route for him early on.

Several “witnesses” could confirm that his odd behavior had started long ago; Doctor Li had also completed the falsification of his psychiatric evaluation, and his father had friends among the judges and prosecutors.

Given all this, why not give it a try?

After all, a beautiful girl from an ordinary family had no right to become his wife, so using her to satisfy his curiosity was perfect—he had always wanted to know what it felt like to kill someone.

Watching the girl struggle beneath him, her face full of terror and pain, begging desperately for mercy, Lv Yide felt an unprecedented strength.

Yes, he would be wealthy, and in the future he would inherit his father’s power.

But compared to killing a living being like himself, all those powers he hadn’t yet obtained no longer seemed so tempting.

Just as he was about to continue, enjoying destroying something beautiful with his own hands, Liu Yujun and Ma En disrupted his plans.

He had long suspected something was wrong with Doctor Liu, but he wanted to savor her frightened expression, so he never exposed her lies. He never expected that he might have provoked someone extraordinary.

If what Ma En said was true, then all Liu Yujun’s understanding of him was wrong, meaning much of his background was likely fabricated—which made sense, since Ma En had recently been Doctor Li’s patient.

Li Wu was the most reliable doctor at the rehabilitation center.

Lv Yide still remembered his father’s instructions: if facing potential danger, call him immediately.

Although he didn’t believe he couldn’t deal with Ma En—at worst, it was just a few gunshots—if he encountered such a formidable threat in the future and didn’t notify his father…

His father would be angry.

Ma En got lucky; he had intended to toy with him slowly.

Lv Yide reached out his hand…

And grasped the gun.

His eyes fixed on his arm with a dead stare.

What am I doing?

Lv Yide tried to call a nurse, but found he couldn’t open his mouth or move his body, as if something was binding him.

“Wuuu…”

He helplessly watched his arm raise the heavy pistol, slowly disengage the safety, and move the barrel toward his temple.

No, what’s happening?!

Save me, Father!

At that moment, Lv Yide suddenly recalled Ma En’s words, which were clear enough:

You still have the choice to kill yourself.

The cold barrel pressed against his temple.

His finger finally touched the trigger.

No, mercy! Can you hear me? I don’t want to die! Please spare me, I’ll do anything…

Bang!

Ning Changkong turned her head toward the sound behind her.

Security guards and nurses flooded the corridor in panic, all having received orders to watch over and protect Lv Yide.

The girl looked back at Ma En, her eyes full of confusion and doubt.

“Could it be…”

Ma En’s face showed a mixture of nostalgia and respect.

“I told you, that young man really has multiple personalities. This is proof. Do you remember what he said when we first met?

“I came to ask about the situation, but he said…

‘I have to personally deal with that demon.’”

Ning Changkong stood there, stunned.

The nurses hurried past them, pushing a stretcher. Blood slowly seeped through the white sheet covering it.

Lv Yide was dead.

The security guards exchanged glances, then all charged toward Ma En and the girl.

Ma En calmly raised both hands.

Then, right before the girl’s eyes, he was roughly pushed to the ground.

Two guards immediately began searching him, while another “politely” blocked Ning Changkong with his body.

A man who looked like the team leader stood in front of Ma En, who was held down by several colleagues, and fiercely demanded:

“What did you do to him? Do you know who you’ve offended?”

Ma En looked puzzled and retorted:

“Why would you let a mentally ill patient stay in the same room as a lethal firearm?”
