Chapter 43: Hmm, A Bit of Service, But Not Much
Page 1/3
The principal was utterly baffled, but since the money was already spent, there was no going back. At least he had paid the full price and hadn’t been swindled by Qian Qi, so he didn’t consider it a loss.
He could only comfort himself with this bitter thought.
Time quickly approached 10 o’clock.
With a loud bang, the gates of the Beast Taming Plaza slammed shut. Grandpa Sun and a few other elderly gentlemen sat down beside the principal.
“There sure are a lot of people today. The Beast Taming Plaza hasn’t been this lively in a long time,” Grandpa Sun said cheerfully, turning to the principal. “Principal, are you quite close with that Qian girl?”
The principal’s eye twitched slightly. He knew Grandpa Sun didn’t want others to know his true identity, so he replied in an ordinary tone, “Well, somewhat. I helped that girl out once before.”
“Oh?” Grandpa Sun laughed heartily. “What a coincidence, looks like we both helped Qian.”
The principal’s ears perked up. Could it be... “You—you also gave money to help Qian Qi?”
“Oh?” Grandpa Sun waved his hand. “Not quite. Qian is an honest person; she even gave me a cut!”
The principal was stunned.
What? A cut?
Why, when he had sacrificed an arm back then, had he not only received no cut but even ended up paying out of pocket to advertise for her?
The principal felt bitter inside but couldn’t say anything in front of Grandpa Sun. He could only glumly gaze at the plaza.
Beside him, Su Ang remained silent, the faintest trace of a smile flickering in his eyes.
At the stroke of 10, the northern gate connecting to the Beast Storage room burst open with a bang, and a third-year senior from the Beast Taming Department entered, riding a nearly three-meter-tall Iron Bear Beast.
The crowd erupted in cheers. Students from the Beast Taming Department clapped excitedly and shouted encouragement; those from the Skills Department gawked as if seeing something unimaginable; the Command Department students remained calm and composed; and the Beast Taming students wore proud, self-satisfied expressions, clearly honored.
Meanwhile, the Plant Magic Department students sneered disdainfully.
“Just a D-grade? What’s there to brag about? When I grow a D-grade Wind Demon Flower, beasts of this level won’t even get close,” one scoffed.
“Look at that little bear—malnourished to the point I suspect abuse or starvation made it agree to the Beast Tamer’s contract,” said another.
“Beast Tamers will go to any lengths to bind a beast, unlike us. We never give up on plant magic until the very last moment!” another added.
The Beast Taming students shot a glare at the whispering Plant Magic students, “What’re you muttering about? Looking for a fight?”
The Plant Magic students lowered their heads silently.
It was no surprise, since in Awakener University, their Plant Magic Department was the least popular and held the lowest status.
As the Iron Bear Beast made its dazzling entrance, Qian Qi arrived fashionably late. Clutching a few oranges, she hurried to the front row and greeted Chen Tong and the principal with utmost politeness.
“How’s the view? Nice and wide, right? You can see everything clearly!” Qian Qi grinned.
Chen Tong snorted coldly. To be honest, he was quite pleased with this exclusive privileged seat.
He was eagerly looking forward to seeing Qian Qi bloodied later on. He would definitely capture the moment on his holographic brain, frame it in gold, and hang it in his room as a trophy!

“Our VVVIPs get other thoughtful services too~” Qian Qi’s lips curled into a saleswoman’s smile as she handed each of them an orange from her arms. “Eat while you watch, don’t be shy.”
The principal glanced at the orange in his hand… hmm, some service, but not much.
Driven by the thought of “earning even a penny back from Qian Qi,” Chen Tong peeled an orange and bit into it, only to find himself unable to smile.
Damn, it was sour.
Chen Miaomiao glanced at it, tentatively took a small bite, then pushed it aside, refusing to eat more.
This time, the principal was wiser. Seeing how sour it was for Chen Tong and Chen Miaomiao, he decided not to eat it either.
Su Ang lowered his eyes to the orange in his hand. After a moment, his slender, fair fingers slowly peeled the skin and carefully popped a slice into his mouth.
Soon after, his expression softened slightly as he chewed slowly. The sight of this silver-haired beauty eating an orange was truly a feast for the eyes—so much so that the principal began to wonder if not all oranges were sour after all.
He peeled one himself, only to have the sourness bring tears to his eyes.
Damn it!
That brat had only given Su Ang sweet oranges!
Looking up, the principal caught Qian Qi giving him a sly smile. When she noticed him looking, she immediately stopped and feigned ignorance.
The principal thought: ...If you have the guts, don’t let him catch you in the act!
After teasing the three of them, Qian Qi was about to start the competition when Chen Tong suddenly stopped her.
He glanced at Qian Qi’s holographic brain, struggling to contain his excitement, and said calmly, “Qian Qi, the match is dangerous. You should leave your valuables with Miaomiao first. Don’t damage them and then try to con me into compensation.”
Qian Qi blinked, then clapped her hands in gratitude. “Senior! You’re so thoughtful! I almost forgot!”
She hurriedly took off the holographic brain and bent toward Chen Miaomiao.
Chen Miaomiao didn’t know what Chen Tong was planning but knew she had to cooperate to reap benefits, so she reached out to take the holographic brain.
Unexpectedly, Qian Qi paused, then walked over to the principal instead.
She extended her latest model holographic brain, about to say something but hesitated, sighed, and turned toward Su Ang.
The principal was confused.
What was she implying? Why the sigh? Did she think the principal would embezzle her holographic brain?
“Senior Su, please keep it for me. I trust you more,” Qian Qi said helplessly. She had tricked the other three but had no grudge with Su Ang, so she trusted him more.
Besides, she had heard Su Ang was powerful and responsible. If anything happened during the match, he could protect her holographic brain.
From the back, Su Xingle couldn’t help but volunteer, “Junior sister~ junior sister~ let me help~”
Qian Qi slapped his hand away disdainfully. “Can’t you see I’m flirting with a beauty? Mind your own business!”

Su Xingle: ???
Su Ang looked up at Qian Qi’s natural expression and didn’t think she was flirting with him. He opened his broad palm to receive the holographic brain and replied in a somewhat indifferent voice, “Fine.”
Probably because of the sweet orange.
After securing her most valuable item in a safe place, Qian Qi stretched her neck and loosened her limbs.
Now it was time for her show to begin!
She picked up the microphone connected to the loudspeaker lying on the ground. A monkey leapt onto the railing, steadied itself, and she spread her arms wide, calling out:
“To the audience behind, how are you? I’m Qian Qi, a first-year student in the Plant Magic Department. On this grand and sunny day, I will introduce you to my latest product—the Defense Fruit, which grants immunity to all D-grade beast attacks within ten minutes!”
“Let me first introduce the sponsor of this event—the second-year Beast Taming student, Chen Tong!”
Qian Qi pulled out a handmade thumbs-up cane from her back waist and pointed it at Chen Tong’s face, which immediately darkened.
“Chen Tong wagered 100,000 yuan with me. After paying a 50,000 yuan deposit, if I can withstand all D-grade beast attacks for ten minutes, he will pay me the remaining 50,000 on the spot!”
“And you all will witness this bet! Cheer! Show me your enthusiasm!”
The students were inspired by Qian Qi’s bold and boastful display, shouting loudly in unison. The noisy, fervent atmosphere instantly ignited the entire plaza.
“Now, please witness this unprecedented, thrilling duel between human and beast!”
Qian Qi leaned back and fell towards the stands. With a perfect backflip, she landed steadily on the plaza and dashed toward the D-grade Iron Bear Beast.
“Timing starts now!”
Above the plaza, the timer lit up suddenly, showing 09:59 as the countdown began.
The crowd erupted with cheers! The noise almost shook the entire Beast Taming Plaza!
“Wow! Qian Qi is freaking amazing! She deserves the title of the craziest person of the year!”
“She’s really challenging a D-grade contracted beast alone! That’s insanely impressive!”
“My heart is about to jump out! Can she last the full ten minutes?”
Especially among the first-year students, no one had seen such an exciting beast taming match for a long time. They eagerly exchanged comments, heating up the atmosphere.
“Damn, can’t see a thing sitting back here! Let’s move up front!”
Students who had been sitting in the back stood up and moved forward, some standing behind the front row seats, others right up against the railing, watching the match nervously and trembling.
The principal watched the excited, vibrant students and felt a surge of youthful energy ignite within him.
This was the passion students should have! Even against a D-grade beast, they stood fearless in the front row, eager to witness this thrilling battle and hope humanity would emerge victorious!
The principal’s heart swelled with emotion, but the next moment, he suddenly felt that something was amiss.
