Chapter 115: The Might of the Ghost Ape
Boom!
With a deafening explosion, the snowpack ten meters ahead surged and overturned like a tidal wave. Amidst the swirling flurry of snow, a massive beast, resembling a small hill, loomed before them.
Among the savage beasts familiar to martial artists, the Diamond War Rhino, as large as a house, is considered a behemoth. Larger still are the rare Cloud-Breaker Giant Eagles. Yet, this snow-beast before them was more than three times the size of a Diamond War Rhino.
Chu Feng and his three companions stood before this colossal creature like infants facing a towering iron fortress.
A-Yan and A-Ying turned pale with fright, their sword-wielding arms trembling. Facing such a terrifying entity, their will to fight had clearly evaporated. Having reached the sixth level of the Body Tempering Stage, they had certainly defeated Diamond War Rhinos before, but in the presence of this snow-beast, they lacked the confidence they had once possessed.
Though both were giant beasts, the presence of the Diamond War Rhino could not compare to that of this snow-beast. A Diamond War Rhino could be subdued by a martial artist in the External Power Stage, but this creature could only be contested by one in the Internal Power Stage.
Without needing Bai Naizhao to introduce it, the three of them knew this massive creature was none other than a Snow Mountain Ghost Ape.
The beast was entirely snow-white. If one were to cover its hideously ugly demon-like face, it would look like a large snow dune from both near and far. But one glance at that terrifying face was enough to realize it was a creature that devoured men without spitting out the bones.
Its pitch-black, ugly face was the size of a door panel, and its four tusks, thick as temple pillars, were as black as charcoal. Its two forelimbs were as sturdy as ancient trees, and the ten claws exposed in the ground were as sharp as spears, gleaming with a cold, piercing light.
Whoosh!
The Snow Mountain Ghost Ape stared fixedly at the four of them, exhaling a light breath from its cavernous, black nostrils. The thick snow within several meters instantly melted into a pool of slush.
"What formidable internal energy!"
Chu Feng felt a jolt. Only a creature with immense internal energy could melt ice and snow with a single breath. If such heat were to hit a martial artist, it would surely feel like falling into boiling water.
"Hall Master... Hall Master Bai, what... what should we do?"
A-Yan and A-Ying were so terrified they stuttered. Despite being sixth-level Body Tempering martial artists, they felt as helpless as ordinary mortals.
Bai Naizhao stood his ground, confronting the Snow Mountain Ghost Ape, but he did not answer the girls.
Chu Feng spoke up, "Junior sisters, retreat to the rear and protect yourselves. Leave this Snow Mountain Ghost Ape to me and Hall Master Bai!"
Chu Feng did not know if he had the strength to take down this terrifying monster, but even if he did, there was no reason to exhaust himself while leaving Bai Naizhao, the ostensibly strongest among them, standing by.
"By the way, where are the other Snow Mountain Ghost Apes? How did they disappear?"
As Chu Feng braced his Thunder-Piercing Wind Spear and asked this, he suddenly noticed something.
"This is not one Snow Mountain Ghost Ape, but two! There is another on its back!" Bai Naizhao said in a low voice.
"Is that so?" Chu Feng’s gaze remained fixed on the ape, but he shook his head. "Hall Master, it seems it is not two, but four!"
Boom!
No sooner had Chu Feng finished speaking than another loud blast erupted. A wall of snow was thrown up by an air current, and from the body of the hill-sized beast, three more house-sized figures burst forth!
These three were also Snow Mountain Ghost Apes. One was larger, seemingly the mate of the first, while the two smaller ones appeared to be their offspring.
Though described as smaller, the two young apes were not small at all—each was roughly the size of a Diamond War Rhino and just as ferocious.
It was clearly a family of four: an adult male, a female, and their two young.
The male had been carrying the family; the female clung to its back, while the two young ones climbed the sides of its belly. Because they had hidden their faces within the male's thick fur, Chu Feng and the others had failed to realize there were four until this moment.
After the three apes leaped from the male, the female began to circle the group, looking ready to tear them apart. The two young ones, however, vanished inexplicably, as if they had never appeared at all.
"Hm? Where did the two young ones go? Why have they disappeared?" A-Yan asked, her face full of panic.
"Be careful! They may have burrowed into the snow, waiting to ambush you!" Chu Feng warned immediately.
Wooo!
The moment Chu Feng spoke, the largest male ape let out a strange cry. It and the female leaped simultaneously, lunging at Chu Feng and Bai Naizhao.
Boom!
At the same time, a snow curtain erupted one meter in front of A-Yan and A-Ying. Just as Chu Feng predicted, the two young apes burst from the snow, lunging at the women with murderous intent.
The family of four launched a simultaneous, violent assault on the four humans.
The largest ape, weighing tens of thousands of pounds, struck with the force of a collapsing mountain and a falling star. The powerful pressure of its internal energy enveloped Chu Feng, turning the surrounding snow into water instantly.
Although the ape was ferocious, Chu Feng did not yield. Spinning his body, he unleashed his Gale Steps. A pillar of wind rose from the ground, shooting toward the ape, allowing Chu Feng to dodge the creature's attack range.
"Bai Naizhao, this ape is extremely powerful. To ensure the safety of our junior sisters, shall I bring my Thunder-Fusion King Beast into the fray?" Chu Feng asked quickly.
"No! Your Thunder-Fusion King Beast is powerful, but it cannot kill this family of four instantly. It would likely alert other ape families in the area, and the consequences would be unimaginable!" Bai Naizhao replied.
"Understood!" On this point, Chu Feng took Bai Naizhao’s advice and did not summon the beast.
Boom!
As they spoke, the massive Snow Mountain Ghost Ape landed heavily. The impact sent snow flying for dozens of meters. Chu Feng leaped high into the air to avoid being injured by the shockwave.
"How does one deal with such a wild, giant beast?"
Chu Feng pondered, glancing at Bai Naizhao’s situation. He was under immense pressure, forced to dodge the female ape's frantic attacks, barely managing to hold his own.
A-Yan and A-Ying were faring even worse. Entangled by the two smaller apes, they were completely overpowered, stumbling and dodging in a desperate, life-threatening struggle.
"This is bad!"
Chu Feng felt anxious. If he and Bai Naizhao could eliminate the two large apes, they could relieve the pressure on the sisters. But if the battle dragged on, the girls would surely perish soon.
An idea struck him. Standing still was too passive. Why not stretch out the battlefield and fight while on the move? Perhaps he could regain a bit of an advantage!
Whoosh!
Deploying his Gale Steps, Chu Feng sent another sharp pillar of wind toward the ape and took the opportunity to sprint over ten meters away.
Roar!
Seeing Chu Feng flee, the Snow Mountain Ghost Ape roared in anger. It slammed its thick forelimbs against the ground and gave chase.
"Chu Feng, do not run too far! Be careful not to lose your way!" Bai Naizhao’s urgent voice echoed.
"I won't!"
Chu Feng did not look back. He thought to himself that whether he got lost was secondary; if he stayed here to fight, he might lose his life in the next second.
Thump!
A sudden thud sounded behind him. Glancing back in the heat of the moment, Chu Feng saw Bai Naizhao tumble heavily into the snow, only to be bounced right back up!
