Chapter 74: Healing the World with Compassion
Ling Xiao rubbed his temples.
“They’re quite stubborn! Well, since they want to talk, let’s see what they have to say. I’m curious to hear it myself.”
“Yes, Young Master!”
...
The next morning, Mu Yiran was up early, which made Ling Xiao feel a pang of tenderness.
“I’ve told you before, don’t work yourself too hard. Let your subordinates handle things.”
Mu Yiran stuck out her tongue playfully.
“The Yiran Group is on the rise right now, so I have to put in extra effort! Today I need to select a company spokesperson—there’s a lot to do, so I have to leave early.”
Ling Xiao shook his head in resignation.
“Let me make it clear: if you wear yourself out and fall ill, I’ll buy the Yiran Group without hesitation, and you’ll stay home as a full-time wife!”
“Got it!”
Mu Yiran gave Ling Xiao a quick peck on the cheek, then whispered in his ear, so only the two could hear:
“Husband, I’m off. Don’t forget to miss me.”
With that, she dashed out the door. Keke was already waiting outside.
“Slow down! Don’t trip!”
“I know!”
“This girl is becoming more and more like a child,” Xiu’er, who had just entered, couldn’t help but smile.
“A woman in love has almost zero IQ. The more she’s pampered, the more childlike she becomes.”
“When did you become as chatty as Ming Cheng?”
“Hehe, don’t be upset, Young Master. Here’s your tea—it’ll last you half a day of chess.”
“Mm.”
Ling Xiao stood up, took his tea, and walked outside.
Just then, a BMW stopped outside.
“Grandpa, this is the place!”
“The Ling Family Clinic. I never imagined that renowned expert would be a doctor.”
“Grandpa, I’ve asked around. This clinic is a scam. Since opening, not a single patient! Look at what’s written on the door. Seeing him costs at least a million!”
The elderly man’s expression hardened.
“Xiaoya, don’t speak nonsense. Remember, there’s always someone greater out there.”
“Grandpa, his martial arts are impressive, but his medical skills can’t possibly be that good, right?”
“Whether his skills are genuine or not, today we’re here to express our gratitude. No mischief.”
As he finished speaking, Ling Xiao stepped out the door.
Seeing Ling Xiao emerge, the pair—one old, one young—immediately approached.
“Mr. Ling!”
Ling Xiao glanced at them.
“What brings you here?”
“Mr. Ling, yesterday you came to our aid at the restaurant, allowing my granddaughter and me to escape disaster. We’ve come today to thank you.”
“It was nothing.”
“You’re too modest, Mr. Ling. For you, it was nothing, but for us, it was a matter of life and death! I’ve prepared a small gift—would you do us the honor of accepting it, so we may express our gratitude?”
Ling Xiao frowned slightly, then spoke after a moment.
“Come in, then.”
He turned and walked back inside. Xiu’er, seeing him return, was momentarily surprised, but then noticed Cai Changyuan and his granddaughter and understood the reason.
They entered the main hall. Cai Xiaoya looked around curiously, while Cai Changyuan presented a wooden box with both hands.
“Mr. Ling, I know you’re a cultivator, so worldly goods may not interest you. Thus, I’ve brought a nine-hundred-year-old ginseng, hoping you won’t find it lacking.”
Ling Xiao nodded calmly.
“That’s thoughtful.”
Cai Xiaoya was rather displeased by this. A nine-hundred-year-old ginseng was worth a fortune—at least ten million, and such treasures of nature were extremely rare, nearly impossible to find. Yet to Ling Xiao, it seemed utterly insignificant. Combined with the arrogant sign on his door, her last bit of goodwill toward him vanished completely.
“You’re a doctor? You’re so young—do you even have a medical license?”
Cai Xiaoya’s abrupt question went unanswered by Ling Xiao.
Cai Changyuan frowned.
“Xiaoya, don’t speak nonsense!”
He quickly apologized to Ling Xiao.
“Mr. Ling, my granddaughter is rather spoiled. Please don’t take it to heart.”
Ling Xiao replied coolly,
“It’s nothing—just a child.”
“Hey! Who are you calling a child?” Cai Xiaoya retorted, frowning in annoyance.
Ling Xiao narrowed his eyes and glanced at her.
“Yesterday at the restaurant, you were quite timid. But today, your temper flares. Do you think yourself impressive, or... do you believe I wouldn’t dare to kill you like those others?”
His final words carried a faint trace of murderous intent, making Cai Xiaoya shudder involuntarily and swallow hard, not daring to speak further.
The atmosphere grew awkward, and the old man quickly stepped in to smooth things over.
“Mr. Ling, please don’t be angry—it’s my fault for not teaching her properly.”
Ling Xiao snorted lightly and said no more.
Cai Changyuan, sly as a fox, chuckled and changed the subject.
“By the way, Mr. Ling, I happened to sustain some injuries yesterday. I wonder if you could take a look?”
“Certainly.”
Cai Changyuan smiled and extended his hand for a pulse diagnosis.
But Ling Xiao did not move, causing Cai Changyuan to hesitate.
“Mr. Ling...?”
Ling Xiao’s expression was indifferent.
“You are not a fated patient.”
His words left Cai Changyuan embarrassed. The implication was clear: he expected payment.
Yet Cai Changyuan couldn’t withdraw his hand, as he was here to forge a connection.
“Xiaoya, pay Mr. Ling.”
Cai Xiaoya pouted.
“Grandpa! We escaped from the northwest with only forty million. Spent twenty million opening the business, and another ten million on the ginseng for him. We don’t have that much left!”
She then turned to Ling Xiao.
“You’re too greedy! We’ve already given you a ginseng worth ten million, and you still want payment for treatment. Stingy!”
Ling Xiao’s expression remained cold.
“The ginseng was your ransom. Now you’re paying for treatment. Of course, you can refuse, but don’t waste my time—I have chess to play.”
“You—!”
“Enough! Xiaoya, be quiet and pay Mr. Ling. Don’t provoke him further!”
Fuming, Cai Xiaoya stomped her foot, pulled out her card, and slapped it on the table.
“Fine, I don’t care anymore! Pay him whatever you like!”
She stormed to the door, crossed her arms, and pouted in silence.
The old man, embarrassed, paid Ling Xiao, then held out his hand for examination.
Ling Xiao was not angered. The first business after opening deserved a cordial touch.
He reached out, sending a stream of true energy into the old man's veins.
In an instant, Cai Changyuan’s body trembled violently!
His aged eyes sparkled, gazing at Ling Xiao as if beholding a rare treasure.
