Chapter Eighty-Three: This Is My Husband
The giant’s wailing shook heaven and earth, the pent-up grievances of ten thousand years finally erupting at last.
Shen Wanquan’s bones were shattered all over. Even with his last breath still clinging to him, he was nearly sent off by that miserable cry.
That sound was hideous.
The Heaven Spring Meridian within his body never stopped, struggling to repair his injuries. Only, its speed was obviously much slower now.
His mind had grown a little clearer, but the pain throughout his body remained. After enduring it for so long, however, even pain had begun to feel numb.
After a few more sobs, the giant had cried himself out and finally calmed down.
“You are Mi Yake? A descendant of the Miya line?”
Mi Yake nodded.
“Back then, before heavenly destruction came, my ancestor had been away training and was not within the clan. Later, she fought alongside the Moonnight Clan against heavenly destruction, and in the end, she fell from her injuries. Fortunately, our foremother was already with child, and thus our line endured.”
Hearing this, the giant hurried forward to help her up.
“That’s right, that’s right! I remember now. Your ancestor, the prophet Mi Yanuo, left the clan to search for the Heavenskin, and that happened right before heavenly destruction descended.”
The giant was so excited that he completely forgot he was still gripping a person in his hand.
The sensation of falling struck again, and Shen Wanquan was speechless.
He could not move a single part of his body, not even his mouth. He could only let himself hang limp in the air.
He watched the white clouds in the sky, one moment stretching into a line, the next into a human shape...
Then came a smack.
His face hit the ground first, and the bones that had barely begun to heal shattered again.
As for the giant, he kept studying the woman before him, his expression gentle and relieved. No one looking at him now would ever guess that he had just been wearing such a ferocious and terrifying face.
“Chief, I have seen the Great Prophet Yemi Zhi.”
After the two of them fell silent for a long while, Mi Yake finally spoke.
The giant was stunned once more.
“Yemi Zhi? He’s still alive?”
“No. It was only a soul imprint. His body perished ten thousand years ago, and he sealed his spirit soul within the Frost God Tree. Only today was he able to awaken.”
“Ah... In order to close the realm ring, people like us had no choice but to remain and resist heavenly destruction. Watching them fall one after another, I was powerless to do anything. I had thought the Great Prophet would manage to escape this fate, but I never expected...”
As he spoke, the giant’s voice grew choked again.
He glanced at the boundary stele behind him, his gaze turning razor-sharp.
Mi Yake did not notice the change in the chief’s expression and only said happily, “The Great Prophet said that ten thousand years ago, he had already foreseen this day. When the eight realm fires all lit together, there would be one person who would lead us in freeing our people.”
The chief frowned slightly. His expression turned wistful, and he muttered under his breath as if asking himself, “Freeing our people? Hah...”
He gave a helpless laugh and was about to say something else, but Mi Yake still had not noticed and hurried on, “The Great Prophet originally thought that person was me, but after waking, he calculated again and discovered that this person... Hmm? Chief, where is the man in your hand?”
Seeing that Shen Wanquan’s shadow was already gone from the chief’s hand, Mi Yake instantly panicked.
Ignoring all propriety, she grabbed both of the giant’s hands and began searching up and down.
The giant was startled, only then remembering that he was still holding that ant of a human.
During their conversation, Shen Wanquan had used the Heaven Spring Meridian’s extreme recovery to heal most of his broken bones and tendons.
Though the occasional stabbing pain still came and went, it was negligible compared to before.
He tried to lift an arm, but there was no feeling at all.
So he simply gave up moving, did not even bother to roll over, and had remained face-down on the ground until now.
Mi Yake searched around the chief’s side and finally found Shen Wanquan lying by his foot.
She quickly scooped him up from the ground and even used her fingers to gently brush the dust from his body.
At this sight, the giant’s brows shot up.
“Mi Yake, what is this supposed to mean?”
He pointed at Shen Wanquan, bewildered, never having expected this thing to still be alive.
Mi Yake wore a tender expression as she explained, “This is the marriage fate the Great Prophet chose for this little one. This man is Elder Jian Jiu’s disciple from the Evil Shadow Clan, and now... he is also my husband...”
As she said this, her enormous face flushed red at once.
The giant, however, frowned.
“The Evil Shadow Clan? Jian Jiu? That old fossil is still alive too?”
The giant found it unbelievable, but Mi Yake nodded.
When she first met Shen Wanquan at the entrance to the cave passage, she had not yet encountered the Great Prophet.
It was only after they crossed the valley and entered the ruins that the Great Prophet found her.
He told her the entire chain of events, which delayed them for a while and kept them from climbing the altar at once, letting Shen Wanquan and the others get there first.
Fortunately, they arrived in time, and Shen Wanquan was able to escape disaster at the giant’s hands.
The giant lowered his head and said nothing.
He looked once more at the human in Mi Yake’s arms. With the badge of the Evil Shadow Clan on him, he now counted as at least half an ancient relic, and so the giant looked at him with a little more regard.
“Very well. Marrying into the Evil Shadow Clan does not disgrace my Giant God Clan. Come here; I will heal this boy.”
The injuries had been caused by him. Now, seeing this fellow transform from an ant into the son-in-law of the Giant God Clan, he still felt somewhat unwilling, but there was at least a trace of guilt in his heart.
Mi Yake blushed again at those words, but still answered softly and held out both hands toward the chief.
Of course, the two of them had been speaking the Giant language the entire time, so how could Shen Wanquan possibly understand any of it?
Feeling himself lifted from the ground, he instinctively turned over and immediately saw Mi Yake’s face.
To his surprise, it was actually this stunning beauty, and he even felt a little pleased.
But... why was her face so big?
Still puzzled, he saw the woman exchange a few words with the giant in some strange language, then hand him over.
At that point, Shen Wanquan could not stay lying down any longer.
Enduring the tearing pain between the cracks of his bones, he twisted up and sprang to his feet from the woman’s hands.
“What... what are you doing? You two have such big mouths, and I’ve only got this much meat on me. You still want to split me between you and eat me? Have you no shame?!”
He thought the two of them were discussing how to divide him up for a meal, so he clutched Mi Yake’s finger from behind and refused to let go no matter what.
He had originally wanted to jump down from the woman’s hands, but after glancing at the height, he abandoned the idea.
Damn it, his bones had been broken several times in a single day, more often than he usually had to fuel the fantasies of his right hand.
Who could stand that kind of torment?
The giant, upon hearing this, was also momentarily stunned.
Just this much flesh on him and he’s still not enough to stuff a gap between my teeth. How can his face be so thick?
He grumbled inwardly, growing more irritated the longer he looked at this fellow. And then, remembering that this thing had already become a son-in-law of the Giant God Clan, he truly wanted to ask Mi Yake whether they might annul the engagement or not.
Mi Yake gave an awkward laugh, then said in the common tongue, “Husband, this is the chief of my Giant God Clan. Hurry and greet him.”
“Husband?”
Shen Wanquan looked utterly blank.
He had only tricked this girl earlier by telling her his name was Boyfriend, and she had actually accepted it?
That was far too hasty, wasn’t it?
Even a fool could now tell that this woman was a member of the Giant God Clan.
If she really became his wife, just imagining them sharing a bed made him think that a single puff of breath from her could probably blow him clear through the wall.
At that thought, Shen Wanquan could not help but shiver.
He turned his head and looked at Mi Yake in utter bewilderment.
“So big...”
