Chapter Ninety: Shen Wan’s Spoils of War
Upon receiving the elder's telepathic message, Elder Hanshanzi had already prepared the massive ship.
As they handed over their identity jade tokens one after another, Wei Zhen led the disciples smoothly out of the city, quickly merging with the main force.
Several scattered sects nearby were also preparing for the return journey.
Among them, Qianxuan Sect was inconspicuous.
Everyone boarded the ship in turn. At the elder’s command, the massive vessel slowly ascended. Hanshanzi then powered it up, and in an instant, it vanished into the horizon.
Watching Yunyou City gradually disappear from sight, Shen Wan, wearing windproof goggles, stood at the bow, feeling somewhat nostalgic.
Though it had only been a few days, the experiences within the ancient ruins still echoed vividly in his mind.
The gift from the Great Prophet, the giant clan chief’s helplessness, Miyako’s resoluteness, the foolish antics of the little light figure...
Well... it was all quite extraordinary.
It felt like completing a level in an online game dungeon—both real and exhilarating.
Of course, he was soon summoned by Wei Zhen to the storage room, accompanied by Gu Zhiping, who had sneaked aboard.
Wei Zhen looked at the two with an inexplicable sense of helplessness.
“You’re Gu Zhiping, right?”
Gu Zhiping nodded.
“To join Qianxuan Sect, you must undergo a test. Only those who meet the aptitude requirements may enter.”
“Isn’t there a way to pull strings?”
“No. Not even if my junior brother asks.”
Wei Zhen had no desire to make enemies with the Ancient Sect, so he simply couldn’t accept this kid.
Gu Zhiping glanced at Shen Wan, who merely shrugged, signaling his own powerlessness.
“Aren’t you an elder? Isn’t your word enough?”
Gu Zhiping whispered. Wei Zhen snorted coldly, curious to see how this kid would continue to make a fuss.
Shen Wan sighed lightly.
“Do you think I have room to argue in front of my senior brother?”
Gu Zhiping lowered his eyelids and fell into thought.
Then, to everyone’s astonishment, he did something that left jaws dropped.
He formally became Shen Wan’s disciple on the spot!
He performed three kowtows and nine prostrations, calling out “Master” with surprising ease.
And Shen Wan actually agreed.
Like they had planned it, the two exchanged a fist bump right in front of Wei Zhen without a care.
Wei Zhen stood there, mouth agape, unable to recover for a long time.
Is this the kind of thing a person can do?
Who the hell taught you that?!!!
He trembled with anger, his dry fingers pointing at the two, but he couldn’t get a word out for some time.
In the end, he exploded in a tirade.
The scolding raged like a storm, lasting more than three hours until his throat was parched and dry.
Wei Zhen weakly waved his hand, ordering them to disappear from his sight quickly.
Otherwise, he wasn’t sure if he’d clean house the next moment.
The two seized the opportunity, darting out of the cabin with a whoosh.
“Ah!”
With a long sigh, Wei Zhen realized he would have to inform the sect leader and negotiate with the Ancient Sect again.
As for Shen Wan and Gu Zhiping, they ran back to their rooms straight away.
On the way, they met Elder Yu Yan and exchanged greetings.
Yu Yan sensed the vitality in the two young men and smiled faintly.
Then she turned and strode off directly to the elder’s chamber.
There was no avoiding it—Zhang Qi and Lian Qiuhan, those two old troublemakers, were quarrelling again.
She didn’t want to get involved, so she came to the elder to ask him to intervene.
Wei Zhen, upon hearing this, felt like crying but had no tears left.
One wave of trouble after another—this was far more stimulating than their escape from Guyou Sect.
He waved at Elder Yu Yan and transmitted telepathically:
“My throat is hoarse; I can’t speak.”
Then he closed his eyes, thinking, “Whoever wants to deal with it, deal with it—I’m done.”
And so, with Shen Wan and Gu Zhiping, the two lively youngsters, plus the two old rascals Zhang Qi and Lian Qiuhan, and the corrupted Lin Bufan, along with Zhao Dongsheng who often fawned over Elder Xiao Jiu, the entire airship was in chaos.
To avoid losing his mind, Wei Zhen chose to enter seclusion.
Fortunately, time passed quickly. In less than three days, the massive ship entered Qianxuan Sect’s territory.
With both feet on solid ground, Shen Wan felt secure.
Though he hadn’t been in this world long, he had already come to regard Qianxuan Sect as his home.
There’s nothing like returning to one’s roots.
Well... perhaps the wrong phrase.
Qu Fanghua and Hong Zhichu led all the inner disciples to the great arena early to await their return.
The sect instantly came alive, as if welcoming victorious warriors home.
Setting aside how Wei Zhen and the other elders arranged things, Shen Wan pulled Gu Zhiping and returned to his residence ahead of the others.
The big round creature was still being raised in the Hundred Beasts Garden, so he hadn’t retrieved it yet.
After settling Gu Zhiping and warning him not to wander off, Shen Wan unloaded his black blade from his back and hurried to the council hall.
His senior brother had given a strict order: attendance was mandatory.
Recalling the first time he met Lin Bufan, Shen Wan’s heart tightened.
“Hopefully that guy won’t cause me any trouble.”
Inside Qianxuan Sect’s council hall, no one sat in the golden dragon grandmaster’s chair at the head of the room.
Below, the eight elders were already seated, and an extra chair had been added at the far left rear.
Finally, Shen Wan had his own seat and no longer had to sit on a small stool.
“Alright, I’ll start with a summary of our journey to Guyou Sect,” Elder Wei Zhen stood and spoke with righteous authority.
Shen Wan tugged at his ear; he was already feeling drowsy as soon as his senior brother spoke.
Fortunately, the summary was brief.
After all, Wei Zhen had waited outside the ruins the whole time and only learned of the events inside through his disciples’ accounts.
“We obtained five ancient inheritances?”
Qu Fanghua exclaimed in surprise, and Hong Zhichu was also somewhat incredulous.
The other elders were less shocked, having already been amazed at Guyou Sect.
Wei Zhen waved his hand.
“To avoid trouble, we chose to leave early.”
“We’re actually not very clear on what exactly happened inside the ruins.”
“By the way, wasn’t the junior brother inside the whole time?”
Several elders spoke in turn, and all eyes turned to Shen Wan.
Shen Wan was startled. How did the conversation suddenly come to him?
Wei Zhen glared at him fiercely. This matter hadn’t even been properly discussed between them yet.
“Tell us, what exactly happened inside the ruins?”
Wei Zhen’s voice grew stern, embodying the dignity of an elder.
Shen Wan puckered his lips, realizing he had probably caused enough trouble.
He dared not be reckless now and began recounting every detail of his experience inside the ancient ruins.
Of course, he glossed over the Great Prophet opening his Heavenly Vein, meeting the Stele Spirit and forcing them to hand over the inheritance, and even the encounter between Miyako and the giant clan chief.
Instead, he focused on exploring the desiccated corpse’s dwelling, leading his disciples deeper into the ruins, and the history of the Giant God Clan depicted on the cave walls.
Naturally, he also took the opportunity to curse the emptiness sect members, especially that bald man who was like a persistent ghost.
Though Shen Wan spoke casually, the eight elders listened tensely, disbelief etched on each face.
Such an adventure—these old fellows had never encountered anything like it in their long lives.
To prove he wasn’t making things up, Shen Wan even took out his storage pouch and asked his senior brother to open it.
When an array of bottles, jars, weapons, and scrolls spilled onto the council hall floor, everyone gasped.
Especially when they saw the lotus platform.
“Ji... Jiutian Pregnancy Spirit Platform!”
Hanshanzi was the first to recognize it, speechless for a long time.
Looking at the other items on the floor,
“Qi Shen Pill.”
“Revival Soul Purification Pill.”
“Blood Lotus Regeneration Pill.”
“Coiling Dragon Pot.”
“Jade Cauldron Divine Bell.”
“Dark Moon Twilight Technique.”
“Absorption Spell Scroll.”
...
“This...”
Silence fell over the hall. Everyone looked at Shen Wan as if he were some kind of monster.
The treasures Shen Wan brought back far outnumbered what Qianxuan Sect’s treasury could produce.
Shen Wan raised his head proudly.
He casually picked up the lotus platform, intending to present it to his senior brother.
“Hmph, if you scold me, let’s see if you dare to do it again.”
But Wei Zhen frowned, interrupted him, and then fiercely coerced and tempted him, confiscating all the items on the floor.
Shen Wan was dumbfounded by this move.
The other elders seemed to have conspired with Wei Zhen.
They all gave Shen Wan a thumbs up and happily began packing up the spoils.
Wei Zhen shook his head, as if to say,
“Now you know what it means to treat others the way they treat you.”
Shen Wan was flabbergasted.
Seeing these elders shamelessly act this way, his mind flashed to Gu Zhiping’s even more shameless face.
When they returned, he was definitely going to give him a good beating!
