Chapter 18: Anomaly Detected

Sang Yao followed Yuan Feiye all the way, entering the base medical room with him, his gaze never leaving Sang Fuying. Inside the medical room, after the doctor had briefly treated Sang Fuying’s wounds, both Sang Yao and Yuan Feiye insisted on placing her in the medical pod for a thorough examination.
Her injury wasn’t serious—there was a bruise on her temple, a small scrape, and after applying some medicine, they just put on a band-aid.
“I just bumped into something; it’s nothing serious. You don’t need to worry too much. Just now, I saw someone with a terrifying face. I don’t know what he took, but before you came in, he broke the glass and jumped out,” she said.
She had genuinely been frightened at the time, unsure whether the man’s face was naturally like that or if he was wearing a mask.
Sang Yao nodded. “Got it, someone will handle it. Fuying, lie down in the medical pod first. I’ll stay outside with you.”
As the pod door opened, Sang Yao had initially wanted to pick her up and place her inside, but he stepped back instead, extending his hand to help her up.
Sang Fuying graciously took his broad hand and obediently stood, ready to enter the pod.
When his palm touched the girl’s soft hand, Sang Yao’s spine stiffened uncontrollably for a moment, as if a current surged through his palm.
He had never taken her hand first before, and she never reached out to him either. When he brought her home that year, she quietly followed behind him.
The medical pod was a small, serene space, bathed in a dreamy pale blue light. The temperature was very comfortable, and as soon as she lay down, she couldn’t help but drift into sleep.
After Sang Fuying was settled inside the pod and only the two men remained in the room, Sang Yao said to Yuan Feiye, “Today, I’m still planning to have her come back with me. She’s lived by my side for five years without leaving. I’m still uneasy about her moving out.”
Yuan Feiye crossed his arms, squinting his fox-like eyes as he scrutinized Sang Yao. “How did I not realize before—you’re such a scoundrel?”
Sang Yao’s handsome brow furrowed. “You’re overthinking. I really care for her out of responsibility. She’s like family to me, and I’m her guardian. What happened yesterday was just an accident. Don’t think of me as so despicable.”
“Don’t tell me not to think badly of you; you’re even worse than I imagined. You know she’s lived with you for five years and that you’re uneasy about her moving out. The day she was bullied at the Lesterlin estate and suspected of being involved in a female’s death, when she sought your help, where were you? She sent you a call request, and you ignored it. When I called you, you answered immediately. Do you think you’re a responsible guardian?” Yuan Feiye’s expression was disdainful.

“And now, General Sang, as an officer who’s extremely responsible and absolutely loyal to the Federation, when the military district was breached and a file was stolen from my commander's lounge, shouldn’t you be leading the investigation on the front line? Why are you here slacking off with someone like me, who’s utterly irresponsible toward position and the Federation?”
Yuan Feiye’s words left Sang Yao without a direct reply because they were true.
He indeed owed Fuying.
“There are many people in the base besides me, but she has only me as family.”
“It’s fine. Now that I’m here to watch over her, you can go.” Yuan Feiye gestured politely toward the door.
His visit to Sang Yao had been in vain, and it even caused the little one to get hurt.
Coincidentally, someone knocked on the medical room door. “Her Majesty, the Empress of the Solen Empire, has arrived at the base. General Sang is requested to report immediately.”
Sang Yao responded, “Understood.”
Before leaving, he could only entrust Yuan Feiye, “I’ll try to come back quickly. Please take good care of her.”
The medical pod finished its scan, and the results appeared on the monitor. Yuan Feiye opened and reviewed them first.
Her body was indeed fine—just minor abrasions.
The pod’s examination was comprehensive, but several indicators showed severe abnormalities. Most strikingly, her female psychic power index was alarmingly high.
That particular index was highlighted in red, accompanied by three exclamation marks.
Though not a doctor, Yuan Feiye knew that defective females lacked psychic power. Normally, there should be no reading at all—certainly not a severe anomaly marked with exclamation marks.
Secondly, her genes showed a similarly high abnormality index, also marked with three exclamation marks.
Thirdly, her female pheromones, while not marked with exclamation marks, also showed abnormalities.
As a defective female, the three most severe anomalies all related to female-specific traits. What was going on? Or was the machine malfunctioning?
When the doctor arrived and knocked on the door, Yuan Feiye quickly brought him to the monitor and pointed at the results, asking, “Can you explain what this means?”
After reading the results, the doctor pushed up his heavy glasses and frowned deeply. “Is the medical pod malfunctioning? If not, then the young lady inside must be a highly psychic and extremely rare advanced female whose genes have mutated, causing her psychic power and pheromones to differ from normal females.”
So, she wasn’t a defective female? The scent Sang Yao and I smelled was actually her own pheromone?
“By the way, is this young lady the former commander’s wife? She’s very beautiful, and they make a good match,” the doctor asked curiously.
Yuan Feiye neither confirmed nor denied, but instead asked, “If the medical pod isn’t faulty, is what you said true?”
“Most likely,” the military district doctor replied. His professionalism was reliable.
“This kind of case is new to me as well. Usually, those lying here are males; she’s the only female. The precise assessment requires specialized female testing institutions. But her head injury isn’t serious. Twenty minutes of treatment inside the pod, followed by a few days of topical medicine, and she’ll recover quickly.”
“I understand. Thank you. I don’t want others to know about this data, so I’ll delete it now.” Yuan Feiye scanned and saved the image of the results with his light-brain before personally deleting the data from the monitor.
Does Sang Yao know about her abnormal physical data? Is she really a defective female?
When Sang Fuying emerged from the pod, Sang Yao still hadn’t returned. Upon waking, her first instinct was to look around with clear, innocent eyes like a newborn fawn.
Yuan Feiye sat down beside her. “You’re looking for your uncle, right? The Empress wants to see your uncle, but he won’t be back for a while. Don’t bother looking for him now.”
