Volume One, Chapter 19: Why Invade the Realm of This Demon?
Lin Feng waved a hand, and the husky, having received its command, immediately charged forward.
It whimpered excitedly under its breath while wagging its tail enthusiastically.
Ever since the White Mist Disaster erupted, its former owner had driven it out of the house.
On top of that, its body had grown enormously. It could never eat its fill and had been forced to catch rats and cockroaches to survive—food that tasted absolutely foul.
This new master was truly generous. His first gift had been a feast.
Lin Feng noticed faint markings on the husky’s forehead, vaguely resembling the character for “king.”
“From now on, your name is White Tiger.”
“Woof, woof!”
The dog barked softly twice, wagging its tail even more happily, as though it understood him.
“Keep eating.”
Lin Feng patted the dog’s head, then turned toward Wang Tao, who was lying on the floor pretending to be dead.
He grabbed Wang Tao by the neck and dragged him into the room as easily as one might carry a dead dog.
“Ah! It hurts... Be gentle, be gentle.”
Blood was still pouring from Wang Tao’s severed arm. He grimaced in agony and cried out repeatedly.
Even so, he showed no intention of resisting.
The man before him had subdued even a mutated dog. Killing him would be no harder than crushing a chick.
After returning to the room, Lin Feng locked the door behind him, refusing to let the dog inside.
The husky appeared to have been tamed, but it still needed to be observed for a few days.
Lin Feng himself had nothing to fear, but there were still Zhang Xueqi and Li Bing in the house—two women who could not even slaughter a chicken.
He carried Wang Tao onto the balcony and casually tossed him into the corner of the laundry basin.
“Bang!”
Wang Tao’s vision went black, and he nearly passed out.
When Li Bing saw her fiancé covered in blood, she trembled in terror, afraid that she would suffer the same fate.
Wasn’t Lin Feng the pathetic simp who had been manipulated by Wang Xiaoli? How had he suddenly become so violent?
He was so powerful that killing her would be effortless.
Lin Feng carefully examined Wang Tao’s wounds, confirming that there was no chance of recovery.
The white bone protruding from his severed arm had already been dyed red with blood.
With microorganisms and bacteria multiplying wildly, signs of decay had already begun to appear.
“You’re definitely going to die. Still, that fat body of yours can be put to some use.”
Wang Tao finally caught his breath. When he heard this, his face filled with terror, and his voice broke into sobs.
“No, no, please... Save me. For the sake of the fact that we know each other.”
Lin Feng gave a cold laugh and patted Wang Tao’s chubby face.
“You two came looking for me armed.
“Especially you. What were you planning to do with that huge cleaver?
“And now you want me to save you? You must still be dreaming.”
Wang Tao’s heart jolted, and he hurriedly defended himself.
“I... I was worried you would hurt Baby. We came here to protect ourselves. Yes, that’s right—to protect ourselves.”
With the situation completely against him, how could he dare admit that they had come to rob him?
Hearing Wang Tao’s excuse, Lin Feng let out another cold laugh.
He raised his foot and viciously kicked Wang Tao’s left leg.
Crack!
The sound of breaking bone rang out.
Wang Tao had just opened his mouth to scream when Lin Feng planted his shoe over it.
Then he kicked Wang Tao’s right leg.
Crack!
Wang Tao’s body convulsed violently. Every vein in his body stood out from the pain, and he nearly fainted.
He tried to scream, but Lin Feng’s shoe remained pressed firmly over his mouth. All he could manage were muffled whimpers.
His eyes bulged as he stared in terror at his twisted legs, his heart filled with despair.
Lin Feng released him and sneered.
“Don’t be afraid. Everything you’re feeling is perfectly normal.
“You’re tall and strong. What if you suddenly attacked me?
“I’ll only feel safe with you like this. You can understand that, can’t you?”
Understand my ass!
Wang Tao roared inwardly, but the agony left him unable to speak.
He stared at his broken legs. Beyond fear, his mind was utterly blank.
Li Bing lay in the living room, her face deathly pale. Her delicate makeup had long since been washed away by tears, leaving trails of black across her cheeks.
Ever since Lin Feng had dragged her into the room, her body had not stopped trembling.
She regretted provoking this devil more than anything.
At the thought that her own legs might soon be broken as well, she was too frightened to speak, much less plead for Wang Tao.
Zhang Xueqi, standing nearby, was also trembling at the brutality of what she had witnessed.
She had originally harbored ulterior motives, trying to control this man.
But now, her heart held nothing but awe. She could no longer summon the slightest thought of resistance.
Lin Feng also noticed that the hostility in Zhang Xueqi’s eyes had vanished, replaced by submission and goodwill.
He raised an eyebrow. He had never expected that disciplining a robber would bring him an unexpected gain.
He lifted Wang Tao again and hung him over the balcony railing.
He placed Wang Tao’s broken legs and remaining arm outside the security bars.
Then he tied him up tightly with rope until he could not move.
Wang Tao let out one miserable howl after another, his cries so shrill that they made one’s scalp prickle.
Li Bing watched the scene with tears streaming down her face.
She was not pitying Wang Tao. She was afraid that she would receive the same treatment.
Lin Feng had not done this merely to torture Wang Tao.
He looked out the window. The world beyond was a vast expanse of white. Several thick branches stretched across the White Mist, their leaves dotted with scarlet fruit.
But he could not see the giant snake that had attacked the woman in the opposite Building B last time.
Lin Feng wanted to know whether the thirtieth floor was safe. Could that giant snake’s tongue reach this height?
Or were there other dangerous mutated animals capable of attacking the balcony?
He ignored Wang Tao’s cries and pleas, turning back into the room.
His gaze fell upon the beautiful married woman lying on the floor, pitiful and still untouched by a man.
Under his cold stare, Li Bing trembled all over like a startled fawn.
At that moment, Lin Feng suddenly reached out.
Li Bing thought she was about to be beaten viciously and hurriedly closed her eyes.
Instead, a fragrant roast chicken appeared before her, its golden skin glistening and steam rising from it.
It was the same food the mutated husky had eaten earlier.
Li Bing was so hungry that she felt dizzy. When she saw such a delicacy, she could not help licking her crimson lips.
For a moment, she forgot her fear. Her eyes held nothing but the roast chicken.
This was her hope of survival.
Lin Feng smiled faintly. It was time to explain things to the two women.
Of course, he would never reveal the existence of the system.
He could blame everything he could not explain on a supernatural ability.
“Actually, I awakened a supernatural ability before the White Mist Disaster arrived.
“It created an ability space that only I can open, and I stocked a great deal of supplies inside it.
“As long as you obediently follow me, I can guarantee that you’ll never lack food or drink. Do you understand?”
Li Bing had indeed seen many videos about supernatural abilities online.
The powers those people possessed came in all forms. Some could control thunder and fire; others could summon wind and rain.
The only explanation for Lin Feng producing so many roast chickens at once was that he possessed such an ability.
Besides, he had fed such precious food to a dog without the slightest regret or sense of waste. He must have stored a tremendous amount of food.
Li Bing’s desire to resist immediately diminished considerably.
As things stood, following Lin Feng was clearly the wisest choice.
In this apocalyptic world, the choice that allowed her to stay alive was the right one.
