Hearing him say this, Lu Meng couldn't help but look at Wen Er, her eyes sparkling.

Wen Er gave a light cough. "It was just my duty."

He then glanced at Adi. Why bring that up now? What if it reminded her of something painful?

Adi caught his signal and understood immediately. "Anyway, I've got things to do, so I'll be off. Won't disturb your date."

As he spoke, he quickly scooped up the things he had dropped—even the melted ice cream—and vanished in a flash.

Lu Meng wanted to clarify that they weren't on a date, but he was already gone. She looked at Wen Er in surprise. "He... he runs so fast."

Wen Er seemed a bit uneasy. "His spirit animal is a greyhound, so he’s very quick on his feet."

A greyhound? She knew that one; it was the fastest breed of dog.

A thought crossed her mind, and she looked at him. "What about your spirit animal? I don't think I've ever seen it."

Wen Er paused. "Do you want to see it?"

Most guides disliked sentinels' spirit animals, viewing them as highly dangerous, so sentinels usually kept them hidden in areas where guides were present.

Lu Meng nodded eagerly. "I do!"

She still didn't know what Wen Er’s spirit animal was. She remembered seeing a small wolf in his mental world during their session the other day; that must have been it, right?

They were on a path, and though it was nearly evening, there were still plenty of sentinels around.

"There are too many people here. Let's go somewhere else."

Only then did Lu Meng notice that several sentinels nearby were staring at them. She felt awkward and wanted to escape immediately.

Hearing his suggestion, she agreed quickly. "Yes, yes, let's go."

Wen Er let her lead the way, a smile he couldn't quite hide tugging at the corners of his mouth.

Lu Meng led him to a secluded pavilion. The lighting wasn't particularly bright, but enough to see clearly. She breathed a sigh of relief.

Wen Er took in her reaction, thinking to himself that she was truly adorable.

"Alright, we're alone now. You can bring it out." Lu Meng looked at him with anticipation.

"Prepare yourself, and don't be scared," Wen Er warned.

Lu Meng patted her chest. "Don't worry, I won't be scared at all!"

Seeing her confidence, Wen Er released his spirit animal.

In a flicker, a grey snow wolf half the height of a person appeared before her. It sat upright, its coat thick and luxurious, looking majestic and imposing.

Lu Meng was genuinely startled for a moment, but she had always loved dogs—wolves and dogs were both canines, after all. Plus, knowing it was Wen Er’s spirit animal, her fear vanished instantly.

She even reached out a cautious hand, wanting to pet it.

The grey wolf noticed her hand hovering in the air, tilted its head, stepped forward, and nudged against her.

Lu Meng looked at Wen Er in delight, as if to say, "Look!"

Wen Er was equally surprised. His spirit animal had always been aloof, rarely even acknowledging him. He hadn't expected it to react like this to her.

Feeling the soft fur under her hands, Lu Meng couldn't resist the urge to fuss over it, stroking it from head to tail. The grey wolf curled up comfortably in her arms, eyes half-closed, enjoying her touch.

Beside them, Wen Er’s fingers tightened. His face flushed with a suspicious red, and he gritted his teeth, as if struggling to suppress some kind of sound.

"Little grey wolf, how about I call you Little Grey?" Lu Meng didn't notice his distress at all. She continued to pet the animal, her voice turning sweet and playful. "Little Grey, you’re such a good boy, such a good doggy."

Upon hearing those words, Wen Er’s pupils dilated, and his body couldn't help but tremble.
