Chapter 44: Conducting Counseling Without Establishing a Mental Link

"What on earth are you looking at?"
Lu Meng frowned slightly.
Was there something wrong with what she had just said? Surely not, she was complimenting him!
Even that wouldn't do?
Did he want her to curse at him instead?
Ew—what a pervert!
Lu Meng could not help but show an expression of disgust on her face.
This scene was caught entirely by Ace, who had been observing her.
He raised an eyebrow.
What is she thinking?
For some reason, he felt certain she must be mentally complaining about him.
"Are you cursing at me?"
"Huh?"
Lu Meng looked at him, a trace of astonishment still lingering in the depths of her eyes, before she snapped back to reality and forced an awkward laugh.
"No, no, why would I curse at you?"
Does this guy have mind-reading powers? How did he even know what she was thinking!
Terrifying!
The moment Ace saw her reaction, he knew he had guessed correctly.
He couldn't help but narrow his eyes. Who would have thought this little guide would actually dare to curse at him?
However, considering that he had just eaten some of her food, he decided to be magnanimous and let it go.
With that thought, he said nothing more, merely stating, "I agree."
Lu Meng was dazed. "Agree to what?"
Ace raised a brow slightly. "Didn't you say you wanted to help me? I'm agreeing to it."

Although he knew it was completely impossible, he somehow felt that even if it was a waste of time, he could accept it.
Lu Meng was left speechless.
The way this man spoke, it sounded as if his agreement was some massive favor to her.
Such a die-hard tsundere.
"Fine, fine, fine, you agree. First, tell me, what is your current contamination level?"
Ace replied, "86%."
That high?
Lu Meng was slightly puzzled. "With your contamination level being this high, haven't you been detected by the military district?"
Ace said it as if it were nothing. "I bought some contraband drugs."
Lu Meng was utterly defeated. Could you please stop talking about something that could get you executed by firing squad in such a calm tone?
Instantly, regret washed over her. "If you get caught, please don't rat me out, I'm begging you."
Ace let out a light chuckle. "How could that do? Being alone is so lonely; you have to accompany me."
Lu Meng, "..."
Pervert.
This guy is truly wicked. Even when facing death, he still wants to drag someone down with him!
Seeing that she seemed to actually believe him, Ace spoke again, "Alright, I promise you, I won't sell you out. Don't worry."
Whether it was her imagination or not, Lu Meng actually thought his voice carried a hint of gentleness.
Her ears must be malfunctioning!
"However, I forgot to mention to you just now: only A-grade guides can establish a mental link with me."
As for her spiritual power, he couldn't sense even a shred of it; it must be ridiculously low.
"What is your spiritual power grade?"
Lu Meng fell silent for a moment. "Zero."
Level zero?

Ace felt a rare touch of bewilderment.
"What kind of grade is level zero?"
Weren't there only five grades: A, B, C, D, and E?
Is level zero some newly invented tier?
Lu Meng explained, "There is no grade. My spiritual power is zero."
Ace's mouth twitched. Are you kidding me right now?
"If you don't even have spiritual power, how are you going to perform conduction for me? Are you playing a joke on me?"
Lu Meng extended her hand. "Hold on!"
Ace looked at her, as if wanting to hear what excuse she could possibly come up with.
Lu Meng cleared her throat and put on a deadpan, serious expression.
"Here's the thing. Dean Elte said I do have spiritual power, but it hasn't been awakened yet! My spiritual power might just be a bit special!"
Ace remained skeptical. "How so?"
Lu Meng smiled mysteriously at him.
"What makes it special is that I can perform conduction without establishing a mental link with a Sentinel!"
During her conduction sessions over the past few days, she had long since figured this out.
Those Sentinels all thought her grade was simply too low to establish a mental link, when in reality, she simply didn't need one at all.
However, she wasn't yet certain whether using her special ability for conduction would actually be effective.
"Really or fake?"
Ace's gaze snapped onto her in an instant.
