After returning to her apartment, Lu Meng immediately resumed studying the materials. Over the next few days, aside from meals, she stayed indoors almost entirely. She even discovered that the restaurant offered delivery service, so she barely stepped outside at all.

In about four days, she thoroughly reviewed all the relevant information that Marta Xiang had sent her and committed it to memory. She messaged Marta Xiang, saying she was ready to take the assessment.

Marta Xiang was quite surprised.

“Already finished? That’s impressive, little guide. But are you sure you want to take the test now? You could familiarize yourself a bit more.”

Lu Meng replied, “I’m ready, Marta! I’m very familiar with everything and definitely want to take it!”

“Alright then, come see me tomorrow morning.”

“Got it, Marta!”

After sending the message, Lu Meng opened the materials once more to review, just so she wouldn’t forget anything before the test tomorrow.

After all, the assessment was imminent!

Lu Meng exhaled deeply and encouraged herself.

She was certain she would pass!

...

Training concluded.

Wen Er drank some water as he turned on his lightbrain device.

His chat page was still open to the messages from a few days ago.

His eyes flickered with a sudden pause.

What has she been up to these past few days?

Adi and the rest of the team came over, joking and leaning on each other.

“Captain, you’re incredible! Your control over your mental form is flawless—you defeated that Ace with ease!”

“Yeah, but what’s going on with Captain Ace? It feels like he’s losing control over his mental form.”

“Who knows. But with their squad’s shady behavior, maybe it’s well deserved! Don’t forget, last competition they cheated and snatched our championship!”

Wen Er wasn’t paying attention; his mind was elsewhere, so their chatter barely registered.

It wasn’t until Adi nudged him, “Captain, what’s wrong?”

He snapped back, “Nothing.”

Adi gave him a suspicious look. “Really? You seem distracted these past days. Could it be…”

Wen Er glanced at him sharply. “Are you bored?”

Adi laughed nervously. “No, no, I still have to shower—sweated like crazy, it’s awful!”

The others, noticing their playful glances, couldn’t help but ask.

“What’s going on between you two? Don’t keep us in suspense!”

“Yeah, Di Zi, spill!”

Adi said, “Nothing really. I just said I’m going to shower and asked the Captain if he wants to come along. Anyone else?”

“Count me in! Let’s go!”

“I want to release my mental form and wash it too.”

Everyone froze.

“No way!”

“Why not?”

“Last time your mental form ran wild all over the bathhouse, bumping into everyone like a lunatic. If you dare bring it out again, we’ll throw you out too!”

The young-looking sentinel sneered, a bit aggrieved. “That’s because it likes you all…”

Everyone else groaned. “No way, we can’t handle that!”

“Oh…”

“Captain, let’s go together!”

Adi looked at Wen Er.

Wen Er nodded.

The group walked side by side, arms linked. They all knew the Captain disliked such closeness, so no one dared touch him.

Wen Er kept a respectful distance but listened as they joked and laughed. Though usually aloof, a faint smile appeared on his face.

Though silent, he didn’t feel distant.

After they left, a few others approached from nearby.

The leader was none other than Ace, whom they had just been discussing.

Kasi was furious, “That pack of dogs only won once and now they’re so smug. If the Captain hadn’t been injured, Wen Er wouldn’t have stood a chance!”

Hal retorted, “Yeah, and accusing us of cheating is ridiculous. We didn’t break any rules—it’s their heads that are messed up!”

“And they knew exactly where we were but said it deliberately just to provoke us. What a bunch of dogs!”
