Chapter Six: Departure~

Luming followed Elt out of the hospital. A silver, oval-shaped hovercar was parked at the entrance, with a man dressed in a black uniform standing beside it. Judging by his silhouette, he was about 1.9 meters tall with an excellent physique. Those legs—they seemed almost longer than she was tall. Luming couldn’t help but marvel inwardly. Life really wasn’t fair; she wished she could grow tall like him! Damn it, who stole her chance to be 1.8 meters tall?
The man turned around at the sound, and the sight of his face made Luming’s eyes widen in astonishment. Deep-set brows, sculpted features as if modeled perfectly—the moment felt like she had stepped into a comic book world.
Wen Er took a few steps forward and stopped before them, placing his right hand lightly on his chest and bowing slightly. “Director Elt, Guide Luming.”
Elt smiled warmly upon seeing him. “Hello, Wen Er. Since we returned from Lotu-9 star in the Gotu system last time, I haven’t seen you. How have you been lately?”
Perhaps it was the intensity in Luming’s gaze that caught him off guard, for Wen Er first exchanged a glance with her before replying, “I’m well, Director Elt.”
“That’s good.” Elt then turned to Luming. “This is Wen Er, captain of one of our military district’s strongest squads.” He paused briefly before continuing, “During our mission reconnaissance, the sentinel squad escorting us was led by Wen Er. In fact, it was Wen Er who found you at that time.”

Luming looked at Elt in surprise. “Really?”
Elt nodded. “Yes. If Wen Er hadn’t found you, we probably would have just left.”
Upon hearing this, Luming realized he was her savior and quickly expressed her gratitude. “Thank you so much.”
Wen Er was momentarily taken aback. Meeting her bright smile, he felt a warmth rise to his ears. “It’s nothing.”
“This is Guide Luming. You already know her situation, so I won’t say more. I’ll leave her in your care,” Elt said.
“Understood,” Wen Er replied, turning to open the door. “Guide Luming, please come in.”
Luming waved goodbye to Elt. “I’m off then, Director.”
Elt smiled at her. “Go ahead, go ahead.”
She carried the bouquet inside and settled into the hovercar. From the outside, the vehicle didn’t look very large, but once inside, it was surprisingly spacious. Luxurious seats, a dining table — there was even a bed.
Luming felt like a country bumpkin, her eyes wide with wonder.
Wen Er observed her expression closely. This hovercar was just a common model in the empire, yet she seemed as if she had never seen anything like it before.

Recalling what the general had told him, Wen Er couldn’t help but wonder: a guide without spiritual power, appearing alone on the heavily polluted and perilous Lotu-9 star—she must have endured tremendous hardships.
Perhaps her family had abandoned her. How heartbreaking that would be.
Looking at her frail figure, he remembered the day he found her.
He had discovered her in a cave infested with camphor ants. The tiny figure lay unconscious on the damp, dark ground, with all sorts of insects crawling around—a truly unsettling sight.
Fortunately, she hadn’t suffered any injuries.
He had carried her out of the cave. She was incredibly light—even a normal cub would have weighed more.
He had never seen such a pitiful guide.
Lost in thought, Luming suddenly leaned toward the driver’s seat.
“Your name is Wen Er, right? I still want to thank you for saving me. Although the director already introduced us, I want to properly introduce myself again. Hi, I’m Luming!”
She extended her hand, her eyes sparkling as she looked at him.
Wen Er was momentarily stunned but reached out his hand nonetheless. “Hello, I’m Wen Er.”
