Chapter 105: Killing Is Truly Easy
The overturned Porsche SUV skidded like a wild horse that had broken its bridle, sliding a full five meters across the ground. It left two black tire tracks and a trail of shattered glass before being brought to a grinding halt by the roadside guardrail.
Lin Yang’s mental perception was fully extended. He moved with extreme caution as he approached the vehicle, uncertain whether the two men who had abducted Leng Nini had been knocked unconscious by the violent collision.
Lin Yang had risked the collision only because he had spotted that Leng Nini was wearing her seatbelt, while the two men holding her—or, more accurately, the three, including the driver—were not. He had calculated the force and angle of the impact with precision, ensuring that the maneuver would not endanger Leng Nini’s life before he committed to it. After all, allowing someone else to hold his weakness was never a wise choice.
As he reached the rear of the vehicle, he leaned his head toward the window to peer inside. Before he could even assess the situation, a jet-black object, gleaming with lethal intent, shot toward him like lightning. The speed was so sudden that even with his guard up, Lin Yang was caught off guard. Being so close, his reaction was just a fraction of a second too late. Even as he twisted his body to evade, he was grazed, and a long, deep gash appeared on his left forearm.
With a crisp *clink*, the hard object struck the ground, throwing off sparks. Only then did Lin Yang see the true nature of what had wounded him: a ten-centimeter-long dagger, entirely black. Despite its dark hue, it gave the illusion of being crystalline and translucent. Under the faint moonlight and streetlamp glare, the hilt was masterfully forged into the shape of a snake’s head, with a thin, forked tongue that looked so lifelike it seemed to be mocking him. On the visible side of the blade, a mamba snake was engraved, coiled in a ferocious, striking pose; the sight alone was enough to make one’s soul tremble.
"A fine blade," Lin Yang couldn't help but praise inwardly. It was far more exquisite than the blue-bladed dagger in his father’s study. However, he had no room for greed; he had no intention of making off with it.
A searing, burning sensation erupted in his arm, accompanied by a piercing pain and a slight wave of dizziness. He looked down at his left arm; his blue jacket had been easily sliced open, and bright red blood was dripping onto the hard pavement. In the dim moonlight, the sight was jarring, and the intense burning sensation emanated directly from the wound.
Staring at the bleeding gash, Lin Yang gritted his teeth. He pulled his own exquisite throwing knife from his waist and, with ruthless resolve, acted without hesitation. He swung the blade across the wound, his movements fluid, swift, and perfectly executed.
Though he had treated many people, this was the first time Lin Yang had used his own blade on his own body.
Poison. The object was poisoned. As a doctor, that was his immediate realization upon feeling the burning sensation—a potent, deadly toxin. Even though he had acted decisively to excise the flesh contaminated by the venom, some had already entered his system. A faint wave of giddiness washed over him, causing him to stumble and nearly collapse.
"What kind of poison is this? So vicious." Lin Yang steadied himself, a shiver of fear running through him. He had truly underestimated the men in the car. To react so quickly after such a violent crash, and to launch such a lethal counterattack, proved they were no ordinary foes.
He rolled and took cover behind the guardrail. This was no time for a head-on confrontation. The toxin was spreading too quickly; he needed to use his internal energy to force it out. Meanwhile, he planned to turn the tables, waiting for them to approach so he could launch a surprise attack.
More importantly, the police cars were closing in, now less than fifty meters away, their piercing sirens drilling into Lin Yang’s ears.
It was a frustrating situation. Five people had been following him, but in his anxiety for Leng Nini’s safety, he had rushed out of the station ahead of them. By the time they emerged, he was long gone. They had tried calling him, but Lin Yang hadn't even known his own location. He had been to Jiangning before, but he had been so focused on the Porsche that he hadn't paid attention to his surroundings. Only now did he realize how secluded the area had become; the road was leading into a desolate mountain pass.
Without the help of his five companions, Lin Yang was truly on his own, deep in enemy territory. To make matters worse, these two unremarkable-looking men were truly ruthless.
*Screech.* With several harsh sounds, three police cars surrounded the overturned Porsche and the Volkswagen Lin Yang had commandeered.
Five officers climbed out, clutching their batons and carefully crouching behind their car doors, observing the two vehicles. Because Lin Yang had hidden behind the guardrail after being wounded and was obscured by trees, the officers had not noticed his presence.
With the police acting as a temporary distraction, Lin Yang finally found a moment to relax. He sat cross-legged in a hidden, dark spot, channeling his energy to purge the poison. He didn't know what it was, but he knew the horror of it; even the tiny amount that had breached his defenses had caused such severe damage.
Since the vehicles had reached the mountainside, the area was empty, and there was no sign of other traffic—no one dared drive in the dark without headlights. Under the pitch-black sky, the five cars with their flashing lights were strikingly visible.
"Hands up! Climb out of the vehicle!" the middle-aged officer, clearly the leader, called out with cautious authority.
As ordinary patrol officers, they were not equipped with guns like the criminal investigation unit. Each had only a baton and a high-voltage stun gun, which was considered decent enough. They were not foolish enough to rush forward and throw their lives away against potential desperadoes. Police officers were human, after all, and none were selfless enough to sacrifice their lives without a firearm.
After calling out several times with no response, a young officer leaned toward his captain and whispered, "Captain Liang, do you think they were killed in the crash?"
He was met with a sharp flick to the forehead. The dull thud proved the strength of Captain Liang’s strike. The young officer winced, not daring to make another sound, though he boldly poked his head out from the safety of the car door, his eyes darting toward the overturned Porsche.
Five minutes of silence passed. The Porsche and the Volkswagen remained completely still, causing the wary officers to relax.
"It seems they were knocked unconscious by the collision. Let’s go, take a look," Captain Liang sneered, feeling triumphant. If he caught a big fish this time, it would be a major achievement. He might even be promoted to deputy chief—he had been a captain for too long, and it was time for a change.
The five men stepped forward cautiously. Deluded by dreams of a promotion, their vigilance waned.
In reality, none of the four in the Porsche—aside from the driver—were unconscious. Leng Sha and Leng Tu were two of the most formidable figures in the Leng family's shadow organization; they wouldn't be knocked out so easily. It was no wonder the Leng uncle and nephew dared to send them to abduct Leng Nini knowing Lin Yang's reputation.
Having learned of Lin Yang’s prowess, the two men hadn't rushed out of the car, planning instead to ambush him. Leng Tu had succeeded; his surprise attack had wounded Lin Yang, a fact he confirmed by watching Lin Yang’s movements as he rolled into cover.
Leng Tu knew the terror of the toxin on his "Black Sand" dagger. Not even a highly trained assassin or special forces operative could last a minute under the erosion of pure mamba venom. He had calculated that after one minute, even if Lin Yang wasn't dead, he would be incapacitated, making him and his older brother, Leng Sha, easy targets. But the arrival of the police had disrupted their plans.
They dared not kill the police. They were representatives of the state; once the state was provoked, even the powerful Leng family would be reduced to dust. The two men hesitated, weighing their options, seeking a strategy that was effective without causing a political disaster. The Leng family had deep roots in Jiangning City and maintained a subtle, cooperative relationship with the police department.
However, after seeing the number of officers and their pathetic weapons, their thoughts shifted.
Kill them. Silence them all and pin the blame on Lin Yang, who had come from Jinhai. This was the best strategy they could think of to avoid accountability.
Just as they prepared to strike, the reinforcements brought by Leng Tang caught up. With Leng Sha acting as a guide, they knew exactly where the two were. With the help of these reinforcements and their own combat experience, the brothers were certain they could slaughter the five officers. They hadn't acted earlier only because they feared one might escape and cause trouble, and they had been wary of the powerful, mysterious Lin Yang. Now, with reinforcements, their last concerns vanished.
The two men inside the vehicle moved. The doors were kicked open, and they surged toward the five officers with lightning speed, moving with terrifying agility.
A black blade flashed. The two leading officers clutched their throats, their eyes wide with disbelief, as they collapsed into a pool of blood.
The two attackers did not pause for a second, instead leaping toward the roadside bushes.
