Chapter 97: Just Standing Like This?
“Done! Perfectly matching their pitiful wailing, the leading police officer’s gaze suddenly turned sharp, his voice ice-cold as he questioned the two, ‘What’s going on? You two look like you’ve been up to no good, wearing black suits, trying to pretend you’re gangsters? Show your IDs, quickly.’
Baffled by the nonsensical scolding, the two’s expressions immediately soured.
‘Officer, we are the victims! Everyone present can testify!’
‘Really?’ The middle-aged police officer turned to survey the surroundings coldly and asked, ‘You can all testify?’ No one responded. Some even added insult to injury, quite cooperatively with the people’s police, stepping forward to testify, ‘No, they bullied that young man. That big guy here just grabbed her collar, plain bullying, an extremely evil act.’
The others watched from the sidelines without taking a clear side, each harboring thoughts of watching a good show.
‘I, I can testify, officer, look at my face, it’s still bleeding, my arms and legs are all injured, all caused by this kid. These are all hard evidence.’ The burly mantis, seeing everyone around ignore him, stepped forward to volunteer as a witness, still pointing at his disfigured pig face.
Mm, blood-soaked and quite ghastly.
‘What’s your relationship with him?’ The police officer pointed at the skinny-faced fish head beside him and coldly questioned the mantis with displeasure.
‘Uh, we’re buddies.’ The mantis blurted out, but then saw the fish head shoot him meaningful glances, his face turning sour.
‘Hmph, buddies? Then you’re in cahoots. Did your head get squeezed by a door or rammed into a pig? Can you even be a witness?’ The leading officer blasted the mantis with a torrent of words, his face showing confusion. Seeing the two remain silent, under Lin Yang’s smiling gaze, he turned to his subordinates behind him and ordered, ‘Come, cuff these two troublemakers. If they dare resist, add the charge of assaulting a police officer.’
The leading officer was ruthless. Seeing his subordinates approach to take them down, the two assumed defensive postures, clearly preparing to resist. Instantly, they were charged with assaulting the police. Assaulting a police officer was a serious crime; once they entered the system, they wouldn’t be able to wash their hands of it. At worst, they’d face a beating that left them half dead, with the milder punishment being a few days in jail and solitary confinement. The harsher fate would involve private torture—whips, batons, electric prods, tiger chairs, chili water—nothing short of leaving them barely alive would suffice.
Threatened severely, the two who had planned to resist now became much more obedient. They extended their hands submissively for the police to cuff them. After securing both and loading them into the police car, the middle-aged police officer pulled Lin Yang to a secluded corner for a few quiet pleasantries, then left with a smile, quite like the saying goes—coming and going in a hurry. Aside from taking away the two troublemakers, there was nothing left behind.
Under the envious gazes of the crowd, Lin Yang cheekily finished the last piece of pork head from his table, stood up, and walked very conspicuously to the silver tray to pull out a few red tickets to settle the bill. Who knew the stingy boss lady would personally welcome him, smiling generously and directly waiving the bill. She bypassed the counter and came very intimately close to him, grabbing his arm and beginning to flirt, her intimate actions carrying not the slightest hint of awkwardness from their first meeting, as if they were old lovers who had been in bed together countless times. Mm, an old lover indeed.
In the midst of small talk, she still couldn’t resist flaunting herself, showering him with signals, batting her lashes, and calling him ‘little bro’ with such familiarity, acting utterly seductive, as if she had been a starving vixen deprived of male nourishment for years, ready to strip him naked and book a room with him.
‘Oh, little bro, from now on I’ll have to trouble you to take care of me. This is a small shop; I can’t stand rough handling, you know.’ The beautiful and charming boss lady spoke in a coquettish tone, her bewitching voice almost melting Lin Yang on the spot.
‘Mm, little bro will come visit often. Little bro has something urgent, so I’ll take my leave first.’ Lin Yang pulled away from her grip and casually brushed her off, then fled in a hurry.
Amid the laughter of the crowd, Lin Yang fled the restaurant’s glass doors in embarrassment, truly fearing that one more second would mean being molested by that seductive boss lady. Thinking of how she had tried to slip her soft, boneless little hands into his pants under the bright daylight, he shivered.
Rushing to the car, he flipped into the driver’s seat, pulled out a cigarette from his pocket, lit it to calm his nerves, then started the engine, flooring the gas pedal until the car sped far away in pursuit of Bai Jing’s vehicle, which had already gone quite a distance.
………………………
‘Uh, why hasn’t that kid caught up? Could something have happened?’ Bai Jing twisted her head, staring at the empty road with no sign of Lin Yang’s car, muttering to herself.
Bai Jing, who had been worried about Lin Yang, didn’t notice the pair of disgusted eyes Dong Yingying cast her way.
Women with aversion to men were always sensitive to romantic feelings, and Bai Jing’s excessive worry and incessant self-muttering naturally caught Dong Yingying’s attention, seated beside her.
‘Jing Jie, do you have feelings for that Lin Yang?’ After a moment’s hesitation, Dong Yingying couldn’t help asking coldly, her brows tightly furrowed, showing displeasure.
‘Uh, sorry, Yingying, what did you say?’ She turned her body, half-propped on the back seat, staring fixedly through the glass at Bai Jing behind her as if only now reacting, her face apologetic as she smiled.
Since her words were ignored, Dong Yingying’s expression turned even colder, but she soon masked it, offering a smile and saying in a low voice, ‘Nothing. I just said, pay attention to your safety. Sitting like that could easily get you hurt.’
‘Blackie, it’s fine.’ Bai Jing responded with a smile, then fixed her gaze on the scenery outside the window, unaware of the cigarette smoke trailing from Dong Yingying’s eyes.
………………………
‘Phew, finally caught up. Damn, wasted half the day looking for it. Guess I need a navigation device, or who knows, I might really get lost one day. After all that effort, I finally see that Porsche SUV up ahead with the van from the Mass series.’ Lin Yang heaved a heavy sigh of relief.
Dong Yingying’s time as a dazzling beauty was precious and limited, so he naturally had to step up the pace; wasting time was shameless.
Watching Lin Yang’s car catch up, Bai Jing finally relaxed. Through the glass, she waved in greeting to Lin Yang, then straightened her posture.
The car sped all the way without much delay, reaching the only place in Jinhai City where the coast could be seen.
In the cool autumn weather, the wind was biting, especially at the seaside, but the air there was much fresher than in the city, and with its humidity, a deep breath felt invigorating. Looking near and far, the surrounding scenery was even more beautiful; gazing out to the sea, the surface rippled gently in the breeze, looking lovely.
Just as the saying went, one wave pushing another, with the first wave crashing onto the shore.
Besides the beautiful scenery and the lapping waves, what delighted the heart most was the quiet atmosphere here. In deep autumn, unlike summer when the beach was crowded with tourists in bikinis frolicking, the car had been stopped by the photographer at a relatively steep cliffside.
‘So beautiful.’ Dong Yingying, who had first stepped out of the car, looked at the sea and sky in front of her and couldn’t help praising it, then ran free like a little bird that had escaped its cage and returned to nature, each deep breath bringing a lungful of fresh air.
‘Yes! So beautiful.’ Watching Dong Yingying’s slender figure and her carefree, unrestrained freedom in the wind, Lin Yang couldn’t help but be mesmerized, her beauty making her a vibrant addition to the fresh scenery around them.
Bai Jing, just having gotten out of the car, was quickly captivated by the surroundings too, but when her eyes shifted to Lin Yang’s infatuated face, a flash of envy crossed her brows as she thought, ‘Yes, she really is very beautiful.’
‘Hey, Jing Jie, come quick! Look how great this spot is, a panoramic view! Look, those two crabs are kissing!’ Dong Yingying pouted cutely, her words nothing like the coldness at the start.
Called by Dong Yingying, Bai Jing gave a faint smile, glanced at Lin Yang, and said in a low voice, ‘Let’s go take a look.’
Following behind Bai Jing, Lin Yang studied her back and realized that she was indeed a workplace beauty; her walking pace was far brisker than other girls’, to the point that he felt he might not catch up if he didn’t hurry.
‘Wow, so beautiful! Uh, where are those two kissing crabs you mentioned?’ Following Dong Yingying’s gaze, he admired the boundless deep-blue sea, then searched for the crabs she had spoken of, but after looking for a long time, he couldn’t find them, so he turned to ask Dong Yingying.
‘Hehe hehe.’ Seeing Bai Jing’s silly expression, Dong Yingying couldn’t help covering her stomach and bursting into laughter, her pleasant voice echoing and rippling in layers due to the geography.
Lin Yang, following closely, was immediately captivated by the beauty of this corner of sea and sky, a figure floating into his mind—that of Tang Yixue. He planned to finish his business and take her to see the mountains and rivers, the scenery, the strange peaks and rocks, the sunrise, and the sunset.
Immersed in the beautiful moment, time passed quickly. Having only admired the scenery, half an hour slipped by unnoticed.
Reminded by the shooting crew’s staff, the three finally emerged from the beauty.
‘Jing Jie, standing like this?’ Lin Yang stood straight as a pine tree, his face showing bitterness, asking helplessly.
