Chapter One Hundred: Signing the Contract?

Unexpectedly, Madam Chen acted even faster than anticipated, which actually worked in their favor. Pei Susu glanced at the post she had published and lowered her eyes.

Had she not lost her head for a moment back then, she would not have lost the child.

“Do you see? Even Madam Chen, who has always opposed us, has already softened her stance. I wonder if the backing behind you can rival Madam Chen’s influence?”

If the reporter had harbored any hope before, it had now vanished without a trace. He knew full well whose orders he followed; Madam Chen, like himself, was merely a pawn.

Yet he hadn't expected that even Madam Chen would surrender.

“Fine… I misjudged and offended the wrong person.”

The reporter finally admitted defeat and bowed his head.

Everything at the hospital proceeded more smoothly than expected. With the two major troubles resolved, the other rumors naturally collapsed on their own.

When Pei Susu and Fu Zhichen left the hospital, the reporters outside had already dispersed. Perhaps it was because they saw Madam Chen’s clarification post, or perhaps they sensed a shift in the wind.

Everyone knew that the Fu Group was not one to be trifled with. Perhaps people would jump to push over a wall that was already falling…

But what if the wall didn’t fall?

Then wouldn't they all become laughingstocks?

They were always someone else’s stepping stones. Now, thinking themselves clever, they believed they could ride the wind and break a major story, but it was nothing more than a fool’s dream. Staying at the hospital any longer would yield nothing useful, and they risked offending Fu Zhichen. It was wiser to leave now.

“All that’s left is to wait for the press conference, where everything will be clarified.”

Pei Susu pressed her lips together. “The actions of M Group should also be brought to light before everyone.”

“We still lack sufficient evidence against M Group, but if we keep pressing forward, we’ll certainly find more breakthroughs.”

Fu Zhichen spoke in a low voice. “This matter is settled here. You should go home and rest.”

Hearing this, Pei Susu felt a pang of guilt. She had promised Fu Zhichen she would take care of herself, but she hadn’t fulfilled a single promise. How could she not feel guilty now?

“Alright, I’ll go home and rest… What about you? After settling things at the hospital, are you heading back to the company?”

Fu Zhichen nodded.

“There are still matters at the company that need my attention, so I must return.”

Although Fu Zhichen didn’t specify what those matters were, it was obvious. Even if the Fu Group appeared to be running smoothly, how could it be completely untouched by recent events?

Pei Susu wanted to face it all alongside Fu Zhichen, but she knew he didn’t want her burdened by these worries, so she simply nodded, reassuring him.

“Go home. This will all be resolved soon.”

There was a note of comfort in Fu Zhichen’s voice. Even at this moment, his first thought was to soothe her feelings. Pei Susu pressed her lips together, and for the first time, felt her eyes grow moist.

She sniffed, feeling a sudden surge of sentimentality. In the past, she would never have been moved by such things.

Perhaps it was because she now knew what it felt like to be protected.

This time, she didn’t argue for herself. Pei Susu didn’t want to add to Fu Zhichen’s burden, so she nodded and got into the car headed back to the villa.

Her feelings were mixed on the way home, but Pei Susu knew that this time, they could truly turn the tide.

Elsewhere, Liang Wenru’s face bore a satisfied smile as he watched the news showing Pei Susu’s downfall.

He had always believed that after Pei Susu left him, she would thrive. That was something he simply couldn’t accept. Seeing her nestled in Fu Zhichen’s arms was more painful than death.

Liang Wenru had thought that after their separation, Pei Susu would be the one suffering more. But reality slapped him hard; Pei Susu didn’t care at all—not about him, not about any of it!

It was all his own wishful thinking…

But things were different now.

“Pei Susu, even if you scheme your way to Fu Zhichen’s side, what does it matter?” Liang Wenru stared at her face in the news, his expression twisting. “You’ll never live better than me—never!”

Suddenly, his phone rang.

Liang Wenru glanced at the unfamiliar number, puzzled, but almost involuntarily pressed the answer button.

A strange voice quickly came through.

“Is this Mr. Liang? We’d like to discuss a business collaboration with Xingye.”

The polite tone left Liang Wenru confused, but he listened patiently.

“You want to collaborate with Xingye? Our company isn’t huge, but we don’t partner with just anyone,” Liang Wenru tried to sound professional. “What’s your company called?”

“Ah, Mr. Liang, you needn’t worry. I’m sure you’ve heard of us.”

The man’s voice carried a hint of amusement.

“We’re M Group.”

Hearing this, Liang Wenru almost thought he’d encountered a scam.

M Group’s reputation? It was the most powerful company in the city besides the Fu Group. If not for Fu Zhichen, M Group would have dominated the market long ago.

How could such a company want to collaborate with him?

“If you don’t believe us, Mr. Liang, we can meet in person. Come to M Group’s tower now, and we can sign the contract.”

Hearing this, Liang Wenru hesitated…

Liang Wenru stepped into the office, only to find M Group’s CEO personally waiting for him, contract ready for signing. He sat down, feeling somewhat lightheaded.

“Mr. Liang, my assistant called you earlier. The cooperation contract is right here. Please take your time to review it.”

The CEO of M Group smiled as he slid the contract across the table.
