“It exploded. What Su Su just said turned out to be true…” If Lu Qianqian had actually gotten into that car earlier, not only would the child in her womb have perished, but she herself would have lost her life in the explosion.

Seeing that the surveillance had gone completely dead, Lu Qianqian suddenly remembered that Lu Yu was still following behind her. With the explosion happening so unexpectedly, could he have been injured as well?

She hurriedly called out his name over the phone.

“Qianqian, don’t be afraid.”

Lu Yu quickly spoke, his voice gentle as he comforted her, knowing she had been frightened.

“Fortunately, both Miss Pei and I sensed something was wrong and didn’t get into that car.”

Lu Qianqian’s eyes reddened. “But this shows how malicious these people are. Just to stir up trouble between the Fu and Gu families, they were willing to commit murder in broad daylight!”

Pei Su Su had been listening all along, feeling a lingering sense of fear.

“You must be extra careful these days. If you can avoid going out, do so as much as possible.”

Pei Su Su understood clearly that these people were targeting them. As long as this matter remained unresolved, there would be an endless stream of attacks on those around her.

“Alright.” Lu Yu’s face grew solemn. “I will protect Qianqian during this time.”

Pei Su Su frowned and pinched her brow.

If everything was directed at her, she could bear it without guilt. But now that innocent people were involved, she could no longer remain indifferent.

“Very well, I’ll trouble you both to be cautious for now. But I believe the culprits will be caught soon!”

After ending the call, Pei Su Su stood up.

Walking to the entrance of the villa, she saw the car that had been nearly melted by the explosion, its frame distorted beyond recognition. “Was it them who tampered with the car?”

Upon hearing this, the men all dropped to their knees.

“Miss Pei, we just acted on impulse! We only followed orders—please, Miss Pei…”

Pei Su Su’s smile was both mocking and indifferent.

“Is that so?”

“But that’s not for me to decide. How you’ll be dealt with is up to the police.”

Today’s events had already alerted the authorities, and all relevant evidence had been handed over, which only strengthened their case.

At her words, the four men began to panic, staring at Pei Su Su in terror and kneeling once more.

“Don’t call the police! We didn’t actually hurt anyone, so there’s no need for legal proceedings!”

Seeing their attempts to argue, Pei Su Su’s smile grew colder.

“Yes, you didn’t kill anyone, but it was attempted murder. I’ve said I won’t arbitrarily assign you a crime; the proper judge for your actions is the police. For now, just wait.”

The four men broke down in tears.

They knew perfectly well that if they fell into the hands of the police, prison would be inevitable—especially for such a grave crime as attempted murder. They’d be locked away for life!

And since they hadn’t succeeded, any rewards promised were gone. Now, it was all for nothing!

Thinking this, they wailed miserably.

“We’re willing to reveal the mastermind—please let us go…”

Pei Su Su exchanged a glance with Lu Yu—after all, their true aim was to find the one behind it all. Pei Su Su raised an eyebrow impassively.

“Very well, I’ll listen.”

With her attitude softening, the men finally breathed a sigh of relief.

“The one who instructed us was…” One man began, but was stopped by another beside him.

“We can’t just give it away so easily.”

He eyed Pei Su Su warily. “If we tell you now, you’ll hand us over to the police anyway. The outcome will be the same.”

“We want to meet Fu Zhichen!”

Pei Su Su hadn’t expected such shrewdness; but if they were truly clever, they never would have gotten involved in such crimes from the start.

“Miss Pei, please don’t make things difficult for us. We’re just workers, earning our pay. Now you’ve caught us, which means you’re clever, but we absolutely won’t reveal the mastermind so easily!”

Pei Su Su stood up, arms crossed, and exchanged a glance with Lu Yu.

“It seems they won’t talk so easily. Qianqian is still at home waiting for your news; you should go back. Leave the rest to me and Fu Zhichen.”

Lu Yu had come out, and Lu Qianqian was very worried. Pei Su Su had no intention of disrupting their lives, so it was best for him to return.

“Alright, I’ll head back then.” Lu Yu glanced at the four men and instructed his subordinates to stay.

“I’m not comfortable leaving you here alone. My men are skilled; even if these thugs try to resist, they’ll have to consider carefully whether they stand a chance.”

His words were not only for Pei Su Su, but also for the four men kneeling nearby.

Pei Su Su nodded gratefully.
