Chapter Ninety-Seven: Fanatic Admirer
The nurse smoothed the stray hairs at her temples, determined to present her best self. She considered herself superior to Pei Susu in every aspect; Pei Susu was nothing but trouble, a femme fatale! Fu Zhichen was bound to fall for her...
Pei Susu looked at Fu Zhichen helplessly.
“She seems to be your ardent admirer. No matter what I say, she doesn’t listen to a single word.”
Fortunately, in front of Fu Zhichen, the nurse wasn’t as fanatical; otherwise, considering the syringe in her hand, even with two of them, they’d have to be cautious.
Xiaofang approached, her eyes brimming with affection—hard to imagine such overwhelming emotion toward a stranger. But recalling that she likely had some mental issues, it wasn’t so surprising.
She must have seen Fu Zhichen somewhere and become instantly obsessed.
Pei Susu wasn’t about to argue with someone suffering from mental illness; things had already escalated, so it was best to resolve the situation quickly—they had far more important matters at hand.
“I truly like you. Please look at me, Mr. Fu. I won’t cause you any trouble...”
Fu Zhichen shielded Pei Susu, pulling her behind him.
“So what if you cause me trouble? The only one I like is my elder sister.”
Hearing Fu Zhichen actually address the nurse, Pei Susu felt a bit exasperated.
This was a lunatic—no matter what was said, she wouldn’t listen. Angering her would do no good; better to let her speak until security arrived.
With such a commotion, the guards were surely on their way. Pei Susu wasn’t worried about the hospital’s security.
Fortunately, thanks to Lady Chen’s dislike of disturbances, there were no reporters or other patients in this area. Otherwise, it would have been utter chaos.
“Apologies!”
A tumult erupted behind them as the head nurse hurried over with several security guards, her face apologetic.
“We’ll remove her right away—sorry for the disturbance!”
The head nurse signaled the guards, stepping forward to pull Xiaofang away. Xiaofang struggled desperately, her syringe waving wildly, making Pei Susu’s heart race.
“Fu Zhichen, you’re mine, you’re mine!”
Somehow summoning unexpected strength, Xiaofang broke free from two guards and rushed toward Fu Zhichen.
Pei Susu, quick and agile, used her height advantage to press Xiaofang’s neck down.
“Take the syringe from her hand first!”
At Pei Susu’s words, the security guards moved swiftly, and in no time, subdued Xiaofang, dragging her away.
Once the pandemonium had subsided, Pei Susu and Fu Zhichen exchanged a glance.
“This is truly embarrassing,” the head nurse approached, her face awkward, “Sorry to have disturbed our distinguished guests. I promise nothing like this will happen again.”
Pei Susu folded her arms, her narrow eyes filled with doubt.
“How did she end up here? She clearly has a mental illness. Is your hospital so accommodating? Can nurses with psychiatric disorders be employed?”
The head nurse grew tense, wiping sweat from her brow.
For some reason, though Pei Susu didn’t seem especially stern, her presence felt oppressively authoritative.
Unable to withstand the pressure, the head nurse lowered her head like a defeated rooster.
“She’s my niece. Normally, she seems quite fine, though she does suffer from schizophrenia... but her episodes are rare.”
Who could have anticipated that trouble would arise at this very moment?
“This is your hospital’s business—it doesn’t concern me,” Pei Susu said with a faint smile. “But I do hope you’ll provide us an explanation.”
At this point, the head nurse would surely resign tomorrow, having placed a relative in the job and caused such a mess.
Once the head nurse had left, Pei Susu turned to Fu Zhichen, feeling somewhat resigned.
“You followed me after all.”
Fortunately, Fu Zhichen was concerned for her and came along; otherwise, who knew what might have happened? She certainly wouldn’t have been able to handle Xiaofang alone.
Thinking about it, Pei Susu couldn’t help but feel a lingering fear.
Today’s shocks had been relentless, one after another, as if fate itself was playing a cruel joke on her.
“Go ahead—I happen to have things to do as well,” Fu Zhichen said, surprising Pei Susu.
“You’re going to see Lady Chen, and I’m meeting the reporter.”
Reporter...
Unlike the quiet near Lady Chen, the other area was likely crowded with journalists. Pei Susu felt uneasy.
“Why don’t you wait for me, and we’ll go together?”
“No need.” Fu Zhichen reached out and gently smoothed her loose hair at her temple. “We’ll split up. Don’t worry about me—we’ll meet up at the dean’s office later.”
Since Fu Zhichen seemed to have a plan, Pei Susu hesitated, then nodded. After all, he had trusted her just now—it was only right that she trust him in return.
“Take care. I’ll go see Lady Chen first.”
Lady Chen’s ward was nearby; Pei Susu quickly found the room and entered.
Lady Chen was lying weakly in bed. Her bodyguard eyed Pei Susu warily, and Lady Chen turned at the sound.
“As expected of Mr. Fu, you discovered the DNA so quickly. But if you think you can threaten me, forget it.”
Her hands clutched the sheets tightly. Pei Susu raised her brows and walked to the bedside.
“I thought you might be feeling a bit sad now. After all, you’ve lost the chance to ever have a child.”
“Are you provoking me?”
Lady Chen glared angrily, but Pei Susu shook her head, her expression unchanged.
“To be honest, Lady Chen, I only feel sorry for you.” She lowered her gaze, looking at Lady Chen’s pale face. “Your original plan was probably just to terminate the pregnancy, wasn’t it?”
“But now, you’ll never have another child.”
Lady Chen remained cold after Pei Susu spoke.
“Don’t project your assumptions onto me. Since I’ve lost both my child and the ability to bear children, everything I’ve sacrificed is worth it.”
Pei Susu caught the flash of pain in her eyes and understood.
