Chapter Sixty-Five: Caught in the Act
But resigning on her own was different; although Pei Susu appeared cold, she still gave her a chance to keep on living.
“Thank you, President Pei.”
Watching Xiao Zhang turn and leave, Zhou Haoyue clicked her tongue twice.
“You’re still a little softhearted, huh? Even in this kind of situation, you’re considering others.”
When Xiao Zhang was with the company, she had been diligent with her projects, and her family happened to be in urgent need of money due to illness. Faced with such a strong temptation, it was truly hard not to waver. This was only human, and though Zhou Haoyue couldn’t forgive her, she could at least understand.
“Let’s not talk about this anymore. Once we’re back, contact our old established partners. It seems finding new companies isn’t as easy as we thought.”
She had originally wanted to save Fu Zhichen some money, but ended up spending more herself.
“Oh right, let’s split the expenses for this trip to Wanjiang, shall we?”
Zhou Haoyue folded her arms. “I am your vice president, after all. If only you bear the loss, wouldn’t that make me a terrible person?”
Pei Susu let out a light, bell-like laugh. Zhou Haoyue quickly added, “You’re not allowed to refuse! You still have that little boyfriend to support, so stop throwing money around. I know you’ve got plenty, but you should be frugal with it.”
They had made quite a bit from recent projects, and Pei Susu could easily afford the expense, but hearing Zhou Haoyue say this, she could no longer insist.
“All right, Vice President Zhou, we’ll split the bill fifty-fifty this time. In the future, I’ll bring back more projects, and if they succeed, your bonus will double.”
Zhou Haoyue burst out laughing.
“Good, then I’ll be counting on you, President Pei.”
…
Meanwhile, with Pei Susu and Zhou Haoyue no longer paying attention, the videos of Liang Wenru grew more sensational, eventually making their way to the trending charts. Along with them, information about Lu Yu and Chu Qingzhu was exposed as well.
At a certain society lady’s gathering, Lu Yu’s wife pushed the mahjong table with a radiant smile.
“When luck comes, nothing can stop it! All the same suit, self-draw!”
She looked up and noticed the awkward expressions on the faces of the others, and her own mood soured.
“Now, you can’t just look like that when I win a round, can you?”
A friend by her side tugged at her sleeve. “You should see the video…”
Lu Yu’s wife was puzzled at first, but when she looked down, she suddenly saw a familiar face—bare-chested, with what looked like a bruise on his face. Beside him, a thinly dressed woman was supporting him out of a hotel.
“What…what is this?” Her face fell instantly. The video was shot from a distance, but how could she not recognize the man who slept beside her every night?
“It’s all over the trending searches now. Isn’t that your Lu Yu?”
Her face turned icy, and the answer was obvious.
“And who’s that woman with him? I’m going to find out which little vixen dares seduce my husband!”
She slammed the table and stood up, grabbed her coat, and headed out, her friends—eager for drama—following behind.
“Where is Lu Yu now? And that little hussy beside him? Tell them both to wait for me!”
She immediately called Lu Yu’s assistant, who nervously gave her the address of a shopping mall before hanging up. Lu Yu’s wife set off for the mall.
She knew about Lu Yu’s flings, but this time he had brought a woman out in the open, making her a laughingstock—throwing her dignity to the ground!
The mall was close by, and she arrived quickly. Since Lu Yu and his companion had used his black card—linked to her—the store was easy to find.
At that moment, Chu Qingzhu was feeling rather pleased with herself, thinking she had finally hooked a golden catch.
Gazing at her reflection, with skin pale as snow and a fresh, elegant air that matched her name, she understood why men always fell for her—
The harder something is to attain, the more precious it feels once in hand.
“President Lu, I like this. Does it look good on me?”
All along the way, she had dragged Lu Yu into every store, swiping his black card with abandon. Lu Yu was generous—anything she liked, he bought.
This was the kind of man she could depend on, not Liang Wenru!
“You look beautiful—you make anything look beautiful.” Lu Yu’s gaze swept over her, and even with a black eye, the two of them exchanged flirtatious glances.
Just then, Lu Yu’s wife entered and saw their smoldering eye contact. The dress Chu Qingzhu wore cost five figures. Instantly enraged, she strode forward with her friends and slapped Chu Qingzhu hard across the face.
A crisp sound echoed through the store. The staff, who had followed the big spender, froze in confusion, glancing at Lu Yu, who sat unperturbed on the sofa.
Realizing what was going on, they shook their heads and quietly left with the goods in hand.
Chu Qingzhu’s ears rang from the blow, but she quickly recovered, shrieking and trying to return the slap. But as soon as she raised her hand, Lu Yu’s wife’s friends grabbed her.
“Who do you think you are? My boyfriend’s right there—he’s Lu Yu of the Lu Corporation! If you hit me, you’ll be sorry when he finds out!”
Lu Yu’s wife sneered.
“Oh, really?” She swung again and again, slapping Chu Qingzhu until she was dizzy, screaming hysterically and struggling in vain.
“Strip her! If she loves seducing other people’s husbands so much, let’s see what kind of temptress she is!”
Chu Qingzhu was utterly bewildered—half understanding, half not—turning to look at Lu Yu, who remained steady on the sofa.
He…he was married?
Her clothes were soon torn off, leaving only a thin slip to cover her, while Lu Yu’s wife didn’t hold back, leaving her bruised and battered.
Outnumbered, Chu Qingzhu had no chance to fight back. In desperation, she looked to Lu Yu for help, but he remained unmoved, a trace of amusement in his eyes.
“The money spent on you today—consider it your medical expenses.”
