Chapter Sixty-Four: So It Was My Own Life That Was Unhappy
Interesting video? Zhou Haoyue would never suddenly say something like that, but soon enough, the video was sent over directly. Pei Susu opened it, and saw a man, his hands and feet restrained, being thrown out of a room. Pei Susu was puzzled at first, but when the shaky camera finally focused on the man's face, she realized it was Liang Wenru.
She opened the comments and found a jumble of opinions, all kinds of things being said.
"I was right there at the scene. Who's so wicked, haha? This guy was already upset after being cheated on."
"What's this explosive gossip upstairs? Let me hear it!"
...
Apparently, this had happened just moments ago. Jiang Xueran had heard Liang Wenru's own account, but watching the video made it feel all the more real, and she couldn't help but burst out laughing.
No wonder he suddenly remembered her goodness—at least she wouldn't have her bodyguards throw him out so unceremoniously.
"No wonder he suddenly remembered my kindness; turns out his own life is miserable. That saying is truly spot on..."
Pei Susu muttered, soon scrolling past the video as if it were just another joke.
Liang Wenru now had nothing to do with her; it was indeed funny, and indeed satisfying, yet she also felt a tinge of sadness in her heart.
Even if he had chosen Chu Qingzhu, he would never have chosen her. He believed he understood everyone's heart, including his own, but in truth, it was all superficial.
Soon, she arrived at Zhou Haoyue's place. He was still laughing at his phone, rocking back and forth, and it was obvious what he was watching.
"You got here so fast?" Zhou Haoyue greeted Pei Susu. "I just ordered you a drink. How do you plan to report the Haihe Company matter upstairs? We applied for funding before we came."
Pei Susu was not worried in the slightest. After all, the greatest manager of the Fu Group was waiting eagerly for her in her hotel room.
"None of that matters. Haihe Company deceived us for the sake of so-called profit, but it's not that important."
Pei Susu lowered her gaze. "But whoever conspired with Haihe Company cannot stay in my project team."
"I've just investigated. The person who booked our hotel was Xiao Zhang. She seems honest and doesn't look like the type...but she's still the most suspicious."
Ever since they arrived in Wanjiang, they'd happily spent two days playing. Some probably guessed this cooperation wasn't going smoothly.
Otherwise, they wouldn't have been allowed to play all the time.
"Gather everyone here," Pei Susu decided, her hair falling softly in the sunlight, exuding gentleness, but her eyes carried a cold severity, like a goddess from Greek mythology.
"Alright, I'll message them now." Zhou Haoyue sent out the message, and within half an hour, both teams had arrived. Seeing Pei Susu's expression, their speculations over the past few days became reality—
It seemed Haihe Company truly wasn't reliable.
"Director Pei, Deputy Zhou, is there a problem with Haihe Company?" an employee stepped forward.
Pei Susu didn’t keep them in suspense; she laid out all the issues she’d discovered during her visits to Haihe Company, though she omitted the hotel problem, pretending ignorance.
"So all the previous reports were fabricated? We were all duped by them."
Someone’s face turned grim; he’d trusted Haihe Company deeply, expecting to profit, only to find it all amounted to nothing.
"We should have been prepared for this when we came over—things might not be as simple as we thought. Treat this trip to Wanjiang as a company team-building outing; I’ll reimburse the expenses myself, nothing will be reported to the company."
Hearing this, instead of rejoicing, both teams felt uneasy.
"Director Pei, how can we let you pay? It was our idea to collaborate with Haihe Company, we sought out the reports."
"Now there’s a problem and you’re left to bear the consequences. Isn’t that a bit..."
They’d worked with Pei Susu for some time now, and knew she was a good boss; it felt wrong to let her suffer for their mistake.
"Coming to Wanjiang was my idea, and I was prepared for this before we arrived, so let’s leave it at that." Pei Susu’s gaze swept over the group, and Xiao Zhang nervously lowered her head.
Seeing her reaction, Pei Susu and Zhou Haoyue understood—the matter likely did involve her.
"You all go play somewhere else for a while. The week-long trip is shortened to three days. Later, report to Deputy Zhou to reschedule; we’ll return the day after tomorrow."
The initial excitement was gone, but at least they didn’t have to cover the costs themselves, so their gratitude towards Pei Susu deepened.
"Director Pei, we feel so embarrassed..."
Pei Susu waved it off, and as everyone prepared to leave, she spoke up.
"Xiao Zhang, stay back. I have something to discuss with you."
Hearing this, Xiao Zhang’s steps faltered. Only when everyone else had left did her eyes show fear.
"Director Pei..."
Seeing her like this, what was there not to understand?
But as Zhou Haoyue said, Xiao Zhang had always been honest and meticulous, which was why hotel bookings fell to her.
Pei Susu truly couldn’t fathom it.
"Why did you help Haihe Company? Are you from Wanjiang? Do you know them?"
Pei Susu’s voice remained gentle, like willows in spring, but Xiao Zhang still felt immense pressure.
"I..."
"Don’t be too nervous, just a simple question," Zhou Haoyue played the good cop. "You know this caused significant losses. We need to know how we ended up here."
Xiao Zhang’s eyes filled with tears.
"I don’t know them. Someone contacted me, saying if I could bring Haihe Company to Fu Group, I’d get a hundred thousand yuan."
"My elder at home fell ill and needed surgery. I had no choice...but I know I can’t be forgiven. I’m sorry, Director Pei, Deputy Zhou."
Greed is indeed more reliable than sentiment.
Pei Susu nodded; she was not surprised.
She lowered her gaze, blowing gently over her coffee cup. "I sympathize with your situation. But as a decision-maker, you betrayed the company’s interests. After we return, please submit your resignation letter to my desk."
Upon hearing this, Xiao Zhang nodded, her eyes red.
What she’d done amounted to commercial fraud. If Pei Susu insisted on pursuing it, she’d not only lose her job, but could also face legal consequences.
